Homelabs don't have to be big or use a lot of power. This little Acemagic AM20 has a AMD Ryzen 7 7735H and the Beelink SER8 AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS. Both have 32GB of memory and both have dual mirrored NVME drives. At idle all of this is using less than 30 watts (including the switch) and peaks around 135 watts. I have these running XCP-ng for virtualization and a few VLAN's setup. It's amazing how much power you can get in such a small and quiet setup. For many Homelab is where the journey into better understanding technology begins through self hosting and taking control of your own data. For November 2024 I will be doing a series of videos to help people get things going in their homelab talking about everything from networking to storage and all the connections in between.

Raspberry Pi 4-powered vertical hydroponic farms let customers grow and monitor fresh produce anywhere. With food insecurity increasing, and global temperatures rising, two graduates from the Massachusetts Institute of Design began working on a business idea to address how to increase food production in non-agricultural settings, beginning with rooftop gardens in Boston. Their idea was to increase “local food access and create a replicable model and a product that could be used to grow food anywhere, all across the world.” Co-founder and current president John Freeman and co-founder Brad McNamara came up with the innovative idea of retrofitting shipping containers as locations for vertical hydroponic farms. Sensors would monitor pH levels, nutrients, light, temperature, air, and soil moisture while cameras checked on plant growth. Container availability and relative ease of shipping, given their original purpose, plus a temperature-controllable environment, meant the self-contained farms could be delivered and set up almost anywhere. https://lnkd.in/eh99KDW5
