Join Cundall and the Green Building Council of Australia for a sustainability masterclass on industrial buildings. The interactive session will bring together a panel of experts in decarbonising industrial buildings and provide attendees with an opportunity to hear from leading projects and learn about key challenges and strategies for achieving successful and long-term sustainable portfolios. David Collins, Managing Director of Cundall Australia, will chair a panel on ‘Designing out carbon through the use of materials’ where he will extract insights from industry peers and share his own learnings from driving decarbonisation across a sector with a large carbon footprint, but equally large potential. Last week, Yvonne McNally and Simon Wyatt hosted a lunchtime seminar in Belfast discussing the pilot version of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard. Having contributed to the standard along with others within Cundall, Simon discussed the standard, outlined set targets, and the impact it will have on design teams and projects across Northern Ireland. As a robust industry-backed initiative, the Standard presents itself as a handbook for policymakers, outlining what is needed to support the UK’s net zero carbon transition. Thank you to everyone who joined us, it was inspiring to see that our industry wants to understand how they can contribute towards net zero carbon design and build sustainable projects. #UKNZCBS #newindustrystandard

The future of work demands flexibility, including options for hybrid working and the creation of spaces to accommodate different ways of working in an office. Historically, only traditional acoustic design parameters have been considered for open plan offices. However, soundscapes, defined as ‘the mixture of different sounds that are heard in a particular place’, are a critical aspect to consider when designing modern offices and should not be overlooked. Colin O'Connor explores this further: https://lnkd.in/eMi5TZfC #Acoustics #Offices #OpenPlanOffice

As storms are becoming more and more frequent in the UK, Dr Elisabeth Marlow asks some important questions about whether our infrastructure is ready for the frequency and intensity we are experiencing. Liz's article for Building Magazine explores the impact of climate change on natural hazards, the importance of designing for resilience, and the role of engineers in adapting to future challenges. From the lessons learned in New York City to the need for updated design codes, it's clear that we must act now to protect our communities.
