Internal pressure to deliver analytical insights quickly is huge. Especially from non-data leaders   But most companies aren't META, Netflix or Google, with tons of money or resources   And unsurprisingly, companies run into problems…   1️⃣ 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐔𝐩𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 – Most vendor-focused tools require significant investment or long-term contracts (especially with the larger players), which is especially problematic for smaller or newer organisations 2️⃣ 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 – Implementing these systems takes time, and scaling effectively requires careful planning 3️⃣ 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 – Vendor solutions often don’t fit bespoke business needs, limiting flexibility 4️⃣ 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 – With limited time, data teams often lack the technical resources and expertise to optimise the solution and manage these tools 5️⃣ 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – Multiple tools often require manual or cumbersome integrations, creating inefficiencies across the data pipeline   Yesterday at Big Data LDN, I attended a talk by Deepan Ignaatious at DoubleCloud. Some key notes I took out of it: 💰 Lower-cost platform foundation based on open-source technology 📈 Easy UI and integration capabilities allows Data Analysts to access data and scale analytics quickly 🛠️ Managed services for tooling integration, maintenance, updates, and security 🤝 Pay for what you need with extensive transparency to understand spend and usage 🚀 Highly customizable, allowing you to bring your own storage to further reduce costs ⚙️ Way better than the big players for real time (this is their niche), speeding up query/ processing for lower cost (especially given its focus on optimising Kafka and ClickHouse)   So remember, when choosing your tech, consider the potential value and purchase considerations based on your business needs and context!   I really appreciate the partnership with DoubleCloud for both this post and my upcoming article on Sunday. I am selective with my partners, and I need to see the value they deliver aligned with a true problem in the data space.
