How do you approach cultivating a growth mindset in your team? Transforming an organisation's culture is no small feat, as I know from my time at Euro Mechanical. One key lesson was recognising the difference between employees who see themselves as owners versus those with a victim mentality. Here’s a glimpse into how we navigated this shift: 1. Mindset Matters: Owner vs. Victim: Owners display optimism and proactive behaviour, while victims often show pessimism and blame external factors. Growth vs. Fixed Mindset: Look for those eager to embrace challenges and learn, rather than those stuck in their ways. 2. Assess for Fit: Emotional Intelligence (EI): Evaluate how individuals handle stress and adapt to change. Cultural Alignment: Ensure alignment with the company’s values and culture. Performance alone isn’t enough if the cultural fit is missing. 3. Fostering Ownership: Psychometric Testing: We used these tests to identify individuals who naturally embodied our brand values. Cultural Integration: We framed the company as a "tribe", looking for those enthusiastic about being part of it. 4. Respectful Transitions: Dignified Exits: Handling transitions with respect and empathy is crucial. Providing clear feedback and support helps manage changes smoothly.
