    Travel retail sector veteran and the visionary force behind Dubai Duty Free, Colm McLoughlin passed away at 81. But his contributions and legacy as a transformative power for the UAE’s travel retail industry will live on. Under McLoughlin’s leadership, Dubai Duty Free evolved dramatically. Business grew from $20 million in 1984) to $2.16 billion in 2023. But beyond numbers, McLoughlin will always be remembered as a passionate philanthropist and an exceptional leader who strongly believed in teamwork. He lived and breathed these words: “𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒅𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚, 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒚." Sunil Kumar Sekharan, who arrived in the UAE in 1994 as a fresh graduate, started his journey as a shelf packer at Spinneys.  Despite wanting to change jobs initially, the brand's customer-centric approach kept him rising through the ranks, Sunil became COO in 2014 and CEO in 2019.
