Celebrated our Q3 success! We recently had a fantastic time celebrating our Q3 success with a fun-filled bowling night and yummy food! It was a great opportunity to relax, connect, and reflect on our achievements together. A huge shoutout to our amazing team for their hard work and dedication—your contributions made this quarter truly remarkable! The evening kicked off with a spirited bowling competition where everyone formed teams together with the shareholders, fostering camaraderie and breaking down formal barriers. Billiards, table tennis and retro arcade games with the likes of Pop-A-Shot and MotoGP were also enjoyed.  Following the games, everyone relished a delicious dinner and fine wines. Lively conversations filled the air as the team discussed company strategies and shared personal stories, enhancing connections among everyone. Starting October 1, 45,000 dockworkers along the U.S. East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico are threatening to go on strike. If the strike proceeds, ports will have to close, which will have a massive impact on the supply chain. Economists from JPMorgan have calculated that a port strike could cost the U.S. economy $5 billion per day. This corresponds to 6% of the U.S. gross national product. According to analysts, it will take approximately six days for each day of the strike to clear the resulting backlogs. Container shipping companies have announced so-called strike surcharges. This surcharge is necessary to cover the higher operational costs that will be incurred due to service disruptions, according to the shipping companies. The rates vary by carrier. The surcharge applies to containers imported into ports on the U.S. East and Gulf coasts, including Boston and Houston. Some carriers will also apply it to export containers. The dockworkers are demanding a significant wage increase to compensate for inflation and are opposing terminal automation, as they fear it will lead to job losses. Additionally, they want a share of the profits that shipping companies are making due to high freight rates, driven by strong demand for container transport and disruptions to shipping caused by unrest in the Red Sea due to attacks by Houthi rebels from Yemen. From October 1 to 7, China and Hong Kong will be focused on Golden Week. During this national holiday, companies and factories are closed, and the population is largely on holiday, causing exports to come to a near standstill. Golden Week begins on National Day, commonly known as Guo Qing Jie. This holiday, which celebrates the founding of the People’s Republic of China, always takes place on October 1 and is lavishly celebrated with parades and processions. Just before Golden Week, the low season for container shipping begins. Several sailings to Europe are canceled, a practice known as blank sailing. In late October and early November, this again impacts the number of sailings from Europe to the Far East. The shipping capacity for both import and export shipments will be limited in the coming period. We therefore advise you to register shipments with us as soon as possible, so that we can ship them under the best conditions and at the most favorable rates. The Asian container shipping companies ONE, HMM, and Yang Ming are extending their collaboration by five years, starting from February 2025, and will operate under the new name "Premier Alliance." At that time, their partnership with Hapag-Lloyd will also end, as Hapag-Lloyd will form a new alliance with Maersk called the "Gemini Cooperation." Additionally, Premier Alliance will exchange slots with MSC on Asia-Europe routes, though MSC will continue to operate independently and will not become a full alliance member.   The partnership includes nine Asia-Europe services, with MSC sailing through both the Suez Canal and around the Cape of Good Hope. MSC has also unveiled its new service schedule for the period following the end of its 2M alliance with Maersk.   Although there was uncertainty about the future of shipping alliances after the EU’s block exemption for container shipping was lifted in 2024, alliances are set to continue. For example, the Ocean Alliance, which includes CMA CGM, Cosco, OOCL, and Evergreen, recently extended their partnership until 2032. #carriers #logistics #jordexglobal
