Twice a year, Kunal Kapoor and I go to Fontainebleau 🇫🇷 to take part in Prof. Vikas Aggarwal class as he teaches the case study of The Luxury Closet “TLC” at INSEAD. In this session, we cover many topics related to the strategic choices of TLC as the company scales: what works, what doesn’t, how to raise funds, and what the VC/founder relationship and journey look like. We answer questions and debate with students about the various options the company has had to consider over the years. For me, I experience this incredible moment as a reunion with my dear friend Kunal and as a reflection on a 12-year journey together, with its ups and downs. One particular question I often get asked is, “What would you do differently if you had to do it all over again?” The question itself makes me appreciate the journey more than the destination…❤️ 🫒 We also discuss whether consumers can impose a more sustainable shoping behavior by embracing the purchase and sale of Pre-loved items. « Customer Pressure Work » is my answer to whether brands can ignore sustainable trends or not, customers hold the keys to change 🔑 🍉 The debate is engaging, and the audience is creative. The 90-minute session feels like a week! We need more case studies like The Luxury Closet to cover the journeys of entrepreneurs from MENA as they build global companies like TLC. The Luxury Closet started as a side project in an apartment and grew into a truly global company with more than 100,000 unique, hard-to-find luxury items and customers from 80 countries around the world.
