Kylie Bielby (Passenger Terminal Today) In collaboration with NEXT50 which specializes in AI-based transportation systems, the project will be rolled out in three phases to integrate biometric authentication systems across all security and operations touchpoints at the airport. The project uses the ICP databases to automatically authenticate travelers using biometric technology, eliminating the need for prior registration for departing passengers.

Abu Dhabi Airports and the 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆(UAE ICP) have partnered to introduce the world’s first #biometric 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 at 𝗭𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, following on from a successful biometric systems project conducted with Etihad airways last year. Supported by #AI-based transportation solutions provider NEXT50, the three-phase project will enhance security, streamline travel, and improve passenger experience integrating biometric systems across all security touchpoints. The first phase of the Smart Travel Project includes automated registration, self-service baggage, and facial recognition at e-gates. By 2025, these systems will expand to all airport areas, to include duty-free outlets. Some key points about the Smart Travel Project: 👉 Biometric databases for will allow automatic authentication without prior registration 👉 Enhanced security process will reduce verification time from 25 seconds to 7 seconds 👉 Implemented across multiple touchpoints, including check-in, boarding gates, and transit areas 👉 Future expansion includes additional airlines, airport services and facilities like the Etihad Airways lounge Abu Dhabi Airports and Etihad Airways implemented biometric systems across multiple touchpoints in November 2023, as part of the launch of the new terminal at Zayed International Airport. This included automated traveler registration service, self-service baggage delivery, and facial recognition verification at e-gates and boarding gates, without the need for travel documents or direct interaction with airport staff.
