Hi Network, Over the past 2.5 months, I had the opportunity to provide mentorship for a cohort of the Global Guided Research Programme (2024). Of the four groups that I mentored, three were placed in the top 3 internationally; a feat which makes me so proud as a mentor. TL;DR summaries of the three projects ARE provided below: 1. Quantum Physics-Informed Neural Networks (QPINNs) for Modelling Climate Change: 1st Place. We studied solutions to a famous model of climate change using QPINNs and benchmarked them against classical PINNs. In addition, we explored aspects of sensing to align our work with real-world observations. Another special aspect of this project was the involvement of Mr. Santiago José Maza Mangarré, who won a special award from being an outstanding performer. 2. Applications of Tensor Networks in Quantum Machine Learning: 2nd Place. In this project, we explored the viability of tensor networks as a method of data compression in Quantum Machine Learning. Although the tasks sounds deceptively simple, it was mathematically and computationally very demanding, and the participants worked extremely hard to produce results that were par excellence. 3. Quantum Random Access Memory (QRAM): 3rd Place. In this project, the participants explored various aspects of RAM on a quantum computer building upon existing models in the literature, and proposing new ideas that were sometimes something out of science fiction, but simultaneously legitimate. The fourth team that I mentored also did excellent work in Quantum Reinforcement Learning (my Achilles heel), and persevered throughout the programme, despite working with minimal team members and having to bear the bulk of the work on their own. I would like to thank the organisers, fellow mentors, and all the participants for their amazing efforts and diligence throughout, oftentimes when I was not the best of mentors. Congratulations on amazing work done!!! 😎 #research #GGRP #QUAE #quantum #quantumcomputing

QUAE Dr. Muhammad Al-Zafar Khan, Ph.D. #GGRP #GlobalGuidedResearchProgram We have finished our research on Quantum Physics Informed Neural Networks (QPINNs)! We covered topics as Advantages and Disadvantages of PINNs, and Why QPINNs; Theory of the Advection-Diffusion Equations, its Relation to Climate Change; Spectral Methods, D-Operator Methods, and Applications; Quantum Sensing Technology My focus was to explore adding an stochastic noise into a Neural Network using Wiener function in order to create a more realistic model for climate change.

In our current era, we are continuously witnessing remarkable and rapid advances in quantum computing. However, at a recent meeting in Princeton, I recall a leading experimentalist telling me: “The idea that quantum computing is just an engineering problem now is total nonsense!” That is, achieving reliable large-scale quantum computers will still critically rely on novel innovations coming from fundamental research in the field. This perspective motivates the Foundations of Quantum Computational Advantage collaboration (FoQaCiA) and their exciting conference, which Perimeter Institute will be hosting next month. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is coming up soon: April 2nd.
PI is hosting the Foundations of Quantum Computational Advantage (FoQaCiA) conference from April 30 to May 3. This marks the halfway point of the collaboration between researchers in Canada and Europe, funded as part of a flagship partnership between Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and EU's Horizon Europe. Abstracts are due by April 2, 2024. The registration deadline is April 12, 2024. https://hubs.ly/Q02qKMG10
