I was scrolling through a dictionary last night and found the following definitions: Flexible – That soldier who seamlessly flipped from ceremonial guard duties, to training foreign service personnel to defend their homeland, to representing her country at sport at an international level. Agile – That aviator who effortlessly bounced out their programme management job in the headquarters, to support delivering humanitarian aid overseas, to sitting on the board of a national charity. Responsive – That sailor who was extended at sea, diverted to provide medical care through a hurricane emergency response, and successfully sat their Open University MBA final exam coming home in the middle of the Atlantic. *You don’t need to ask about Royal Marines. They’re Royal Marines. Above all, ex-Service personnel are masters of the pivot; in an uncertain world, they’ll be your most valuable players every time.
