I waited until the dust settled to share a small personal and professional reflection regarding my participation in GITEX GLOBAL Largest Tech & Startup Show in the World and Expand North Star. Having been part of the first two editions of GITEX AFRICA, I was honored to be invited to the global stage this year, particularly for the Expand North Star conference focused on #startups and investors. This time, I was able to contribute in a new capacity—not just as a speaker or moderator, but as a representative and a humble ambassador of Egypt’s #fintech ecosystem. At Plug and Play Tech Center, we are dedicated to fostering strategic networks and dialogues. We recognize that it starts with open conversations and disruptive leadership across both public and private sectors. This commitment is reflected in our partnerships with key entities like Information Technology Industry Development Agency, ITIDA, the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), USAID and other global government partners and Fortune 500 corporations worldwide. It was a privilege to join forces with Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority FRA and engage with its Chairman, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh Egypt’s leading voice in financial inclusion and digital financial services for NBFIs. Together, we held a groundbreaking fireside chat on the Fintech Surge global stage, marking a first-of-its-kind dialogue with the #Egyptian #regulator. We addressed key messages during our discussion: • Clarifying the Egyptian regulatory landscape: We aimed to demystify its perceived complexity and spotlight key stakeholders • Egypt’s fintech ecosystem is open for business: We highlighted the clear milestones and a strong regulatory framework, including recent progress in licensing e-KYC providers, digital lending solutions for SMEs and startups, and other advancements • Inclusion for investment and cybersecurity: We discussed frameworks for robo-advisory and smart contracts, along with new policies enhancing cybersecurity and digital data protection • The Egyptian #SPAC: This unique instrument offers companies the opportunity to list on the stock exchange, allowing funds to list their portfolios, paving the way for regional and continental investors to gain enhanced trust and valuation transparency My sincere thanks to Dr. Farid and his dedicated team, whose trust and vision made this discussion possible.
