This Strategic Partnership highlights our shared commitment to promoting green growth and sustainability, a significant step towards sustainable urban development. The MoU aims to leverage both partners’ knowledge, experiences, and networks to contribute to boosting the UAE’s urban sustainability, net-zero readiness, and the transition towards green growth in the built environment. This partnership will facilitate evidence-based knowledge sharing on green growth and green projects implementation in the UAE. In addition, by joining forces, GGGI and EGBC will advance thought leadership in green building practices, leveraging insights from both public and private sectors. The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) UAE is thrilled to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rochester Institute of Technology, Dubai (RIT Dubai) to empower the next generation of market leaders. This strategic partnership will foster collaboration between academia and development efforts in the UAE. The MoU aims to leverage the strengths of both partners to contribute to the implementation of relevant national planning framework including but not limited to commitments on climate change, and green development. GGGI UAE brings extensive experience and a proven track record in policy development, climate action, and capacity building, while RIT Dubai contributes its academic expertise, applied research, and talented students. Through this partnership, both parties will work together on joint research projects, knowledge sharing & capacity building, and community engagement programs. GGGI UAE, in partnership with وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and support of #DIFC, hosted a roundtable for stakeholders of the UAE-LEAF Program. Eng. Aisha Al Abdooli Director of Green Development & Environmental Affairs, chaired the roundtable and welcomed the positive feedback received for the program roadmap. The event was moderated by Ahmed Al Amra, GGGI UAE Country Representative, who guided the discussion towards refining the program’s ESG implementation. Providing the right tools for effective reporting, building the capacity of stakeholders, and strengthening the regulatory framework for Enviromental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting are in the heart of UAE-LEAF program, unlocking a sustainable and prosperous future for the UAE. These pillars would help UAE companies understand their environmental and socioeconomic impacts and provide practical steps to improve them, making UAE a greener sustainable country. Wednesday, 27th of November 2024, The GGGI MENA Regional Director, Mahamadou Tounkara, moderated an engaging panel at the Global Food Security Summit #GFSS on “Building Resilient Food Systems: Africa’s Path to Food Security” This Discussion featured Nadine Gbossa, Director of Food Systems at the International fund for Agricultural Development and Amath Pathe SENE, Managing Director of Africa’s Food Systems Forum. The Panel aimed to explore strategies for the urgent need of strengthening food security in Africa through resilient and inclusive food systems. The discussion focused on fostering collaboration, improving access to finance and establishing market-driven partnerships to enhance food security and livelihood. Amath Highlighted the vast opportunities presented by Africa's youthful population and abundant land resources while acknowledging the complex and unique challenges that Africa faces, such as the conflicts, inadequate infrastructure along with being more prone to the damage of climate change. Nadine Emphasized the potential collaborative opportunities in Nigeria, highlighting that it is a model for future initiatives to replicate successful improvement for food security. On Tuesday the 26th of November 2024, the GGGI UAE Country Representative, Ahmed Al Amra, Chaired an insightful Roundtable at the India Global Forum #IGF on “Bridging Innovation – Harnessing Green Technology Transfer.” The session was centered on the critical need of investments in the global south for the purpose of aiding countries which are in critical need to gain access to better infrastructure and pipelines. The Roundtable explored thoughts on the required mechanisms and approached to expedite the deployment of sustainable technologies, through creating the right ecosystems, and promoting key enablers including the role of R&D, SMEs, access to finance, and the role of stakeholders. The discussion was enriched by the enlightening thoughts from key representatives of various organizations in this important event. 🏛 Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), convened a Validation Workshop (24th Oct 2024)and presented the key findings of the Gender and Social Safeguards (GESS) Report, integral to the development of the UAE's National Adaptation Plan (NAP). The workshop served as a platform for engaging diverse stakeholders from across the UAE, seeking their validation and insights to refine our recommendations for presentation at the upcoming UNFCCC COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Additionally, climate governance and stakeholder mapping were also outlined to provide the context upon which the GESS findings and recommendations were built. 📢 The session commenced with insightful remarks from Fatima Sahib Ali Al Habshi (Head of International Affairs of Climate Change Section, MOCCAE), who provided an overview of the UAE NAP development. Dr. Mahamadou Tounkara (MENA Regional Director, GGGI), underscored the significance of a robust NAP in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Ahmed Al Amra, GGGI UAE Country Representative concluded the session by encouraging participants to actively engage in the UAE NAP development process. ♂ Stakeholders representing various sectors—including federal and emirate-level government entities, private sector, civil societies, academia and research —actively participated, enriching the discussion with their perspectives. This collaborative effort underscores our commitment to inclusive climate governance and the vital role of gender and social safeguards in shaping a sustainable future for the UAE.
