This is huge! Elon Musk's AI startup xAI just raised $6 billion at a $24B valuation to challenge OpenAI's dominance. This is the largest A, B, or C funding round in history 😳 The historic Series B round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and Sequoia Capital, among other top VCs. To put this into perspective: - OpenAI raised $14 billion and is currently valued at $80B. It’s the most funded AI company in the world right now. - xAI raised $6B but was launched just 15 months ago 🤯 “Join xAI if you believe in our mission of understanding the universe, which requires maximally rigorous pursuit of the truth, without regard to popularity or political correctness” - Elon Musk xAI has to be the most exciting opportunity in tech right now. "SynFuel is too expensive" World Fund study A rather commonly raised reasoning against investing in #synfuels. But what a short-sighted argument? Do you have a business case? Then define "too expensive". The World Fund report: https://lnkd.in/eZE5GgiD ends though: "True innovators that can commercialise new and novel processes have the potential to capture a significant share of the SAF market. If the climate impact of electrofuels becomes proven, these investments will be extremely compelling." Not just about new and novel processes, but also about new and novel business cases? And the climate impact of electrofuels (synfuel) is proven. Or would you prefer to have fossils burned, World Fund? IMHO that report is just another one in the long line of academic reports to reinforce boxes. #distractanddivert #cognitivedissonance #selfdeception We talk about 2.5 GIGAtons fossil CO2 replaced by green, renewable/recycled CO2 per year within 10 years. We talk about profitability. And yes, it's a challenge. Beyond the nice fancy A.I. or small *tech investments that are #fartoolittlefartoolate. We talk about an #industrydisruptor. But yes, disqualifying it quickly on "common knowledge" without thinking, it makes us the callers in the dark. "By 2040, [...] global renewable fuel production [...] reaching over 1,000 megatons of oil equivalent. Today, global energy demand for transport is 2,668 megatons of oil equivalent across all modes of transport." Is that so? I'm afraid, more (but realistic) food for climate-delayers. And by then, the industry is dependent on another "fuel supplier". It's why for Kolibri, we envisioned a different approach to secure our own access to truly sustainable (green) aviation fuels. Yes, we could fly 100% fossil-free within 10 years (if some investors would finance our launch, based on our business and financial plans (aka. commitments). Making Kolibri a - profitable! - lighthouse project that and how we can speed up the development making a 100% fossil flying a realistic possibility for the entire aviation industry for 2040-50. Real and holistic sustainability needs real capital! We had another two talks with #impactinvestors and #climateinvestors, confirming our point and targets, but targeting low-budget projects. Generally, we have a growing impression that #sustainability is focused on #cherrypicking the #lowhangingfruit and #lipservices, something that can be argued to be in support for the #greenwashingindustry and #panaceadistraction. A little investment here and there that looks good (and often does neither fit #circulareconomy nor a positive #lifecycleanalysis). If you can't #leavethebeatenpath and #thinkoutsidetheboy (way outside!), don't help investors pay for their indulgences by investing into small scale projects that have no real and measurable impact to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals at large. We have a growing #sdgfundinggap, for which we need real capital and target #industrialscaleprojects and sometimes to #leaveyourcomfortzone! And to #listen.
