『型の解放者 - 渡口政吉と分解組手の誕生』
〜尚禮舘の分解組手を発表した沖縄全島体育祭〜
昭和29年、沖縄のコザ市で「空手道剛柔流研究所尚禮舘」の扉が開かれた。
その主は渡口政吉、全沖縄空手道連盟の重鎮にして多くの弟子を育てた名うての指導者だった。
コザは基地の町。
日々、マリン部隊や陸軍の兵士たちが道場に押し寄せ、地元の弟子たちと共に汗を流した。朝から夜まで、道場は熱気に包まれていた。
渡口は思案にふけった。
既存の道場が古い稽古法や型にこだわる中、どうすれば米兵たちにより効果的な指導ができるだろうか。
そして閃いた。師である宮城長順から学んだ型の解き方を応用し、「型の分解組手」を生み出したのだ。
昭和33年、コザ市で開催された沖縄全島体育祭。
渡口は「型の分解組手」を初めて披露した。
会場は驚きに包まれ、各流派の師範たちから絶賛の声が上がった。これまで誰も試みたことのない、画期的な手法だったのだ。
この日、尚禮舘の革新的な精神が沖縄空手界に新風を吹き込んだのであった。

"The Liberator of Kata - Seikichi Toguchi and the Birth of Bunkai Kumite"
~The Okinawa Island-wide Sports Festival where Shoreikan's Bunkai Kumite was unveiled~
In 1954, the doors of "Karate-do Goju-ryu Research Institute Shoreikan" opened in Koza City, Okinawa. Its master was Seikichi Toguchi, a pillar of the All Okinawa Karate-do Federation and a renowned instructor who trained many disciples.
Koza was a base town. Daily, Marines and Army soldiers flocked to the dojo, sweating alongside local students. From morning to night, the dojo was filled with enthusiasm.
Toguchi pondered. While existing dojos clung to old training methods and kata, how could he provide more effective instruction to the American soldiers?
Then it struck him. Applying the kata interpretation method he learned from his teacher Chojun Miyagi, he created "Bunkai Kumite" (kata application sparring).
In 1958, at the Okinawa Island-wide Sports Festival held in Koza City, Toguchi unveiled "Bunkai Kumite" for the first time.
The venue was filled with amazement, and masters from various schools praised it. It was a groundbreaking method that no one had ever attempted before.
On this day, Shoreikan's innovative spirit breathed new life into the Okinawan karate world.
