About

Thing Thing refers to a cartoon webcomic showing two people saying, "thing" and "thing," with a third person listening from the outside who eventually says, "thing," disgusting or shocking the other two. The comic was created by Twitter / X user dobyghost (@dobyghost) in early July 2024, who captioned it, "this was my whole childhood (adhd)." The comic highlighted an occurrence some people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) experience when talking to others. In the following days, the comic became an exploitable meme template with people changing out various elements of the original, amassing iterations in viral replies and quotes.

Origin

On July 7th, 2024, X[1] user @dobyghost tweeted an original comic in which two characters are talking about a "thing" with a third character listening. Then, the third says, "thing," disgusting the other two (shown below). @dobyghost captioned the comic, "this was my whole childhood (adhd)," receiving over 176,000 likes in two days.

Spread

On July 8th, 2024, X[2] user @kirbugo tweeted an exploited version of the comic, showing the third character opening a large eye, revealing itself as a cyclops. In a day, the post gained over 131,000 likes (shown below, left).

Later on July 8th, X[3] user @friend__charlie quoted the comic, writing, "this is how it feels trying to talk in a discord server you just joined," receiving roughly 123,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).

Multiple iterations surfaced in quotes of X[2] user @kirbugo's post, like one shared by X[4] user @_flinsky_ on July 8th, 2024, that added a fourth panel referencing the Max Design Pro "Help me!" sound, gaining over 11,000 likes in a day (shown below).
