Apple's new Fitness+ ad says 'all you need is iPhone' and iOS 16.1

Apple Fitness+ on iPhone

Last updated

Apple's newest ad highlights the promised new Apple Fitness+ feature that means for the first time, the service can be used whether or not a user has an Apple Watch.

Called "Now all you need is iPhone," the new ad spotlights how reveals that Apple users can readily access Fitness+ with an iPhone, or as before with an Apple Watch.

Since its launch in December 2020, Apple Fitness+ has required an Apple Watch to record and track workout data, but that has now changed with the release of iOS 16.1. Users on this upgrade can perform Fitness+ workouts using only their iPhone, although tracking metrics won't be available.

Still, even without that aspect of the service, Apple Fitness+ remains a first-class workout feature. It continues to be a subscription service, but taking away the requirement for an Apple Watch will make using it less of a financial commitment.

Apple Fitness+ costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year. It's also bundled into the Apple One Premier plan, which costs $32.95 per month.
