“Future school for Ukraine” featured on the very special stage of the New European Bauhaus community! On 3rd December 2024, we’ve had a heartwarming, uplifting session on the NEB Lab's Public Infrastructure for Ukraine (https://lnkd.in/ezTkybci), which covered the outcomes of the Future School for Ukraine (https://lnkd.in/df8XPqJt) architectural competition. Besides being able to share the experience of the backstage of the whole process, I was especially happy to see and to hear the real stars of the initiative – the architectural competition winners of the 1st (SSA - Scandurra Studio Architettura (IT) + M. A. Vustianskyi (UKR), 2nd (Danila Bielokopytov (NOVA - Architects, UKR) + Orange Architects (NL) and the 3rd (Huttunen-Lipasti Architects, FI) prizes. ABOUT “FUTURE SCHOOL FOR UKRAINE” A Lithuanian initiative „Future school for Ukraine“ (https://lnkd.in/df8XPqJt) is one of the examples of how the approach „co-creation and quality first“ can lead to a quality result that Ukraine needs. The “Future School for Ukraine” architectural competition was organized by Architects Association of Lithuania / Lietuvos architektų sąjunga and Central Project Management Agency of Lithuania / Centrinė projektų valdymo agentūra - CPVA), and funded by Lithuania’s Fund for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid. This project, initiated by the Government of Lithuania and implemented in collaboration with Ukraine's Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development, aims to support the rebuilding of Ukraine's devastated educational infrastructure. The competition identified the best proposal for an adaptive technical school project, which will serve as a free resource for constructing new schools in Ukraine. The project, to be ready for the summer 2025, will be given to Ukrainian communities for free, to be adapted and used for the construction of schools throughout Ukraine. Congratulations to the winners of the "Future School for Ukraine" competition! The visionary design by SSA - Scandurra Studio Architettura (Italy) in collaboration with @Mykhailo Vustianskyi (#Ukraine) has been selected for its innovative approach to creating a sustainable, inspiring, and functional space for education in #Ukraine. "It was incredibly rewarding and inspiring to witness such a diverse range of participants and the outstanding quality of entries. The competition presented a complex challenge, as we aimed to meet the standards of modern educational paradigms and European quality expectations for learning environments, while also addressing the unique Ukrainian context—its culture, legal framework, and, of course, the current war. We have great confidence in this project, as it aligns with the #NewEuropeanBauhaus principles: aesthetics, sustainability, and inclusiveness. The competition brief and entries were co-created with Ukrainian experts to ensure they meet local needs. Now, we’re moving into the next phase: the technical design by the first-place winners will be completed by spring 2025 and made freely available to Ukrainian communities. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to secure donors to fund the construction of these schools in Ukraine.
