Great news from Vienna ✈🥳 The latest Boeing 787 (Dreamliner) full flight simulator from Lufthansa Aviation Training Group has recently been put into operation - the first long-haul simulator for the Vienna location! This means that the training of @Austrian Airlines' 787 pilots can now be held here in Vienna. Austrian Airlines already welcomed two of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its fleet last year. Nine more will be added in the coming years. As soon as all Dreamliners have been flown in at Austrian Airlines, all long-haul cockpit crews can be trained in Vienna. #dreamliner #simulator

From the desks of the design team to the world: Austrian Airlines has covered one of its Boeing 777 aircraft with the silhouette of Johann Strauss - just in time for his 200th birthday 🎉! Perfectly in line with this year's annual theme of Austrian Airlines' long-standing cooperation partner, Vienna Tourist Board “King of Waltz. Queen of Music.” The Waltz King appears on the plane in the style of a copperplate engraving, which particularly emphasizes its classic charm. At the same time, the headphones that Johann Strauss is wearing in the picture provide a modern element that symbolizes the connection between past and present (as does the musical framework of our video). The illustration is therefore intended to appeal to both a modern audience and fans of classical music 🎶🎧. With this special homage to the famous Austrian composer, we are not only celebrating an Austrian icon, but also an important piece of Austrian Airlines tradition. After all, Johann Strauss' music has a very special meaning for the red, white and red airline: the Danube Waltz is played more than 200,000 times a year on board an Austrian Airlines aircraft, both before take-off and after landing 🛫.

Our journey together with ITA Airways begins. Here are some exciting news for frequent flyers and travel enthusiasts: Miles & More and Volare Integration: starting today, Miles & More members can earn and redeem miles on ITA Airways flights, while Volare members can earn and redeem points on flights with Lufthansa Group network airlines. Codeshare Flights: From summer 2025, there will be codeshare flights on over 100 European routes, bookable from February 25, 2025. Enhanced Lounge Access: From summer 2025, premium passengers will enjoy improved lounge access, enhancing their travel experience. Star Alliance Membership & Terminal Changes: ITA Airways will be joining the Star Alliance, which will provide even more connectivity and benefits for passengers. Also, the airline will change terminals in Frankfurt and Munich, aiming for a more seamless travel experience. Cold, Colder, Coldest: Austrian Airlines launches flights to #Ivalo in northern Finland! ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ Last Saturday, 25 January 2025, we successfully celebrated our inaugural flight to Ivalo! 🎉 ✈️ After a punctual take-off at 9:30 in Vienna Schwechat, flight OS339 touched down in the snow-covered Arctic after just under 3.5 hours. On board: excited winter sports fans and cold-weather enthusiasts heading to their dream winter getaway in Finland, around 234 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Our guests were warmly welcomed by representatives from Ivalo Airport and the Finnish airport operator Finavia—plus a sweet treat of Finnish chocolate to compliment the chilly Arctic experience! 🍫 After Rovaniemi and Kittilä, Ivalo is the third destination to be added to Austrian Airlines' Finland portfolio, known for its stunning winter landscapes and Northern Lights. As demand for Arctic adventures grows, we’re delighted to connect travelers with this enchanting region.    #IvaloAirport #LaplandAirports #newdestination #connectivity Finavia Lapland North Destinations Austrian Airlines 

Spreading Austrian charm at the Hahnenkamm Races! 🎿❤️ This past weekend, we once again had the privilege of being part of the legendary Hahnenkamm Races in Kitzbühel—a thrilling event that embodies the spirit of alpine skiing. Our highlight? Welcoming guests to our cozy Austrian igloo 🧊❄️! With a warm punch in hand, they could take a break from the winter weather, relax amidst lush greenery and get inspired by our sunny summer destinations. 🌴 Additionally, it was great to see COO Francesco Sciortino, our wonderful Purser 2 Bettina, and Austrian ski legend Hans Knauß ski down the Streif as part of the Austrian Airlines team in the “Kitz Charity Trophy”, an event dedicated to raising funds for alpine farmers in need. Shark Alert in Vienna! 🦈 📢 Wait, what? You heard right! Austria has just welcomed its first #AeroSHARK! 🇦🇹✈️ Today, the first Austrian Airlines 777-200ER equipped with the innovative sharkskin surface technology by Lufthansa Technik landed in Vienna. Our OE-LPC is the first of a total of four B777-200ERs to be modified with this technology. The significantly reduced frictional resistance from the surface film will lower our long-haul fleet’s CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. 📊 The impact of four B777-200ERs with sharkskin: ✅ 2,650 tonnes of fuel saved ✅ 8,300 tonnes of CO2 reduced ✅ equivalent to 46 flights from Vienna to New York 🗽 This cutting-edge technology brings us one step closer to our CO2 reduction target.
