𝗗𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲. #Scientists who study neurological and psychiatric disorders have long been interested in how dopamine works and how relatively high or low levels of dopamine in the #brain are related to behavioral challenges and disabilities. 1️⃣ Magnesium-rich diet: Eat a diet rich in magnesium and foods rich in tyrosine. These are the basis for dopamine production. Tyrosine is an amino acid. It is absorbed into the body and then into the brain, where it is converted into dopamine. #Foods known to increase dopamine include chicken, almonds, apples, avocados, bananas, beets, chocolate, green leafy vegetables, green tea, lima beans, oats, oranges, peas, sesame and pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, turmeric, watermelon and wheat germ. 2️⃣ Avoid too much sugar and coffee: Avoiding sugar or coffee can help maintain adequate dopamine levels. Although these substances can produce a quick feeling of pleasure, in the long run, they interrupt the normal absorption of this neurotransmitter, making it difficult to sustain. Most addictive substances alter dopamine circuits and may overstimulate the system, enhancing its depletion and leading to addiction. 3️⃣ Sleep: Dopamine plays a very important role in regulating sleep. Try to sleep at least 7 hours a day. Lack of sleep can lead to cognitive deficits and affects us negatively. 4️⃣ Daily #exercise 5️⃣ Avoid stress. Apply techniques such as #meditation or breathing. 📄 Source: https://lnkd.in/dwvCMJty #dminecare

𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗗𝗦, 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗮 𝟮𝟳.𝟬𝟵.-𝟬𝟭.𝟭𝟬.𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰   Beneath fruitful exchanges throughout the congress days, we were listening with great interest to Bas Bloem at #mdscongress about Management of Early #Parkinson’s Disease including a state-of-the art holistic approach, and getting updates about:   🔘 Planning a holistic approach to manage Parkinson’s disease patients 🔘 Deciding when and how to start medical treatment for motor and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease 🔘 Recognizing motor and non-motor fluctuations and select appropriate options for their management   We were proud to see the #scientific poster of Dr. med. Christoph Schrader presented, showing the benefits of analysing wearable devices. Giving a brief summary about the last one: mobility patterns and gait parameters may provide objective information on the extent of motor fluctuations in the home environment and may facilitate the adjustment of the #medication regimen or the identification of individual #patients who may benefit from device-aided therapies (📄Movement Disorder Society, Device-aided recording of gait parameters and motor fluctuations in patients with advanced Parkinson‘s disease in home environments, 2024).   Thank you #mds2024 for having us!   #dminecare

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲? #Parkinson’s disease is driven by the loss of neurons responsible for producing dopamine, a key neurotransmitter involved in motor control and cognitive functions. Protecting dopaminergic neurons from damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) is crucial, as current treatments only address symptoms rather than offering a cure or prevention. A recent study offers promising #insights, showing that antioxidants might reduce neuronal damage by activating AMPK (adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase) and inhibiting ROS production. In a mice model, Ecklonia cava polyphenols, a type of #seaweed #antioxidant, demonstrated potential in protecting neurons. By stimulating AMPK and preventing ROS generation, these antioxidants could play a significant role in preventing Parkinson’s disease. 📄 Reference: Yasuda, Y., et al. A recent #study published in the journal BRAIN reveals that visual hallucinations in Parkinson's disease (PD) are linked to reduced cholinergic activity in specific brain regions. 📄 https://lnkd.in/dqkD9BWW While traditionally attributed to dopaminergic treatments, these #hallucinations - affecting about 25% of late-stage PD patients - are now understood to stem from cholinergic denervation, particularly in the occipital, temporal, and frontal lobes. Using PET scans with so called [18F]FEOBV tracers on 38 PD Patients and 10 healthy controls, researchers observed significant cholinergic deficits in areas like the left precuneus and lingual gyrus among hallucinating patients. These findings emphasize the Perception and Attention Deficit (PAD) model, highlighting poor visual perception and impaired object attention as key factors for visual hallucinations in PD, which are worse with cholinergic hypoactivity. Lead researcher Emile d'Angremont advocates for larger, diverse studies and individualized treatments using cholinesterase inhibitors to address these deficits. 👉 Link to article: https://lnkd.in/dbh3jpR5 #dminecare #scientific #parkinsons #movementdisorder

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀? As #Parkinson's disease progresses, many patients find that oral medications no longer control symptoms adequately. Oral medications have a therapeutic window where they work effectively without causing disruptive side effects. As Parkinson's progresses, this window narrows, making it harder to manage symptoms with oral #therapy alone. Continuous pump therapy offers a solution by providing a consistent delivery of medication, minimizing the fluctuations that can occur with oral medications (Schapira et al., 2009). However, a #treatment change can be daunting for #patients and their families. Patients and their families often have many questions and concerns about switching to pump therapy, such as: "𝘈𝘮 𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵?" Here, understanding the progression of the disease and the limitations of the current therapy is a main subject. 🔗https://lnkd.in/g_5DtBrE "𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘰?" Two cohorts were followed from January 2016: one with Tai Chi training (143 patients) and a control group without #exercise (187 patients). Assessments were made at baseline and at three subsequent intervals. The study found that long-term Tai Chi #training slowed the progression of motor and non-motor symptoms and delayed the need for increased antiparkinsonian medications. 💡 Overall, Tai Chi provided long-term benefits for PD #patients by improving symptoms and reducing complications. 📄 Li G, Huang P, Cui S, et alEffect of long-term Tai Chi training on Parkinson’s disease: a 3.5-year follow-up cohort studyJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry 2024;95:222-228. 👉 Link to full paper: https://lnkd.in/d5DDstSg In line with this goes our #blog post that emphasises further positive effects of Tai Chi: 👉 Link to D-mine® Care Blog Post: https://lnkd.in/ddb-PcY6 #dminecare
