This day highlights the critical need for ongoing research, patient care, and community engagement to improve the lives of individuals living with IBD. 📱I'm proud to say that I'm currently involved in several impactful projects to improve IBD care. The mantra #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs truly came to life as Bastian Hauck, Dawn Adams, Mary Anne Murphy, Niki Breslin-Brooker, and Emma Doble emphasized the importance of the patient perspective in diabetes care. Their passion and dedication to the cause resonated deeply with me, highlighting the critical role of community and communication in managing health outcomes. Another standout session was by Liva Healthcare, who demonstrated their innovative digital solution aimed at type 2 diabetes remission. Their work in integrating patient-centered technology offers new hope and possibilities for individuals managing this condition. 🌟 Reflecting on an insightful first day at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference in London! 🌟 Yesterday was filled with enlightening discussions and the latest developments in diabetes care. It was fantastic to connect with healthcare professionals and industry leaders who are equally passionate about improving diabetes management and patient care. A highlight was Melanie Davies' insightful presentation on "Shaping the Future of Diabetes Care: Innovation, People, Interventions and Partnerships". Melanie emphasised the importance of interventions that go beyond glycaemic outcomes and advocated a more comprehensive approach to diabetes management. She noted that outcomes of interest are evolving to include factors such as well-being and physical function, underscoring the need for interventions to be holistic. In addition, she highlighted the critical role of patient empowerment, making them informed and activated partners in managing their condition as part of the chronic care model. Her insights provided a valuable perspective on the multidimensional approach needed in diabetes care. Equally inspiring was the exploration of advances in glucose monitoring technologies. The opportunities these tools offer in diabetes management underscore the critical intersection of technology and lifestyle interventions that can significantly improve patient outcomes. I firmly believe that the cornerstone of any therapeutic strategy should be an informed and active patient. My extensive experience with cardiometabolic patients has reinforced this belief; specifically, that prioritising physical activity not only increases patients' intrinsic motivation by allowing them to directly experience the benefits to their overall quality of life, but also leads to significant improvements in subsequent lifestyle changes. I look forward to another day of learning and networking!
