OPEC is a permanent intergovernmental Organization of 12 oil-exporting countries: Algeria, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, IR Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Venezuela. The Organization was established in Iraq at the First Meeting of the OPEC Conference, which is widely known as the ‘Baghdad Conference’. It was held on 10-14 September 1960. The Organization’s mission is to coordinate and unify the petroleum policies of Member Countries and ensure the stabilization of oil markets in order to secure an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consumers, a steady income to producers and a fair return on capital for those investing in the petroleum industry.

#Highlights of the Summer Fellowship Program (SFP-2024), held from 1 July to 23 August 2024, at the #OPEC Secretariat in #Vienna.

#OPEC Academy participants in the Summer Fellowship Program (SFP-2024) have completed their various research projects within the Secretariat. #OPEC Secretary General, HE Haitham AlGhais, extended his appreciation to all participants for their in-depth research and highlighted the importance of engaging youths in the industry so as to enhance knowledge exchange and provide opportunities for growth. As part of their research, the Summer Fellows investigated key issues related to the industry, such as energy security, energy transitions, energy poverty, and key developments in the global energy industry.
