Info

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is the world's largest regional security organization. Its 57 participating States span the geographical area from Vancouver to Vladivostok. Born in the early 1970s as the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe, it served as an important multilateral forum for dialogue between East and West during the Cold War. It was also instrumental in tackling the numerous security challenges that arose in Europe after the collapse of communism. Today, the OSCE, its institutions, and its 16 field operations are actively involved in a broad range of security- and stability-related activities including election monitoring, human rights, legislative reform, rule of law and media freedom, as well as combating human trafficking, terrorism and the smuggling of small arms and light weapons.

🤝 Dialogue and co-operation are key. There can be no progress if we are not tackling issues like climate change, water management or corruption together. 🏛️ The OSCE’s Economic and Environmental Forum Process is a year-long series of events and activities starting in January with the Chairperson’s proposal of a theme and ending in December with all participating States' Foreign Ministers mandating our work for the upcoming year. 💧 During this year’s Economic and Environmental Dimension Implementation Meeting #EEDIM24 we review what we did in 2024 on water management across the OSCE region. 🔴 Tune in to the Opening session live on 29 October at 9:30am CET, where we are taking stock of what we did in the field of water management in 2024 👉 osce.org/live MALTA - OSCE24 Kate Fearon

On 23 October, the Gender Issues Programme under the #WINGenderEquality brought together regional women mediators’ networks to discuss effective strategies for building resilience against climate disasters. We showcased inspiring case studies on how women lead the way in navigating both current climate and humanitarian crises and explored opportunities for them to build stronger regional capacities to address non-traditional security challenges.

🚫 Discrimination isn’t just an issue of fairness—it’s a security risk. ❌ When marginalized groups are denied equal opportunities, particularly in employment, societies becomes more divided. 📢 The latest "Barometer of Equal Opportunities" from the OSCE Mission to Skopje found that 77% of respondents felt political affiliation heavily influences hiring decisions in North Macedonia. This exclusion not only creates deep social rifts but can also fuel unrest, erode trust in institutions, and lead to instability. When people feel left out, society weakens. 🔍 Addressing discrimination is about more than fairness—it's about building a secure, cohesive future for everyone.
