Today we've (soft) launched the new CABI Thesaurus. It's a public beta. I'd love you to go play with it. Through use and feedback we'll work out what we're getting right and what we need to improve. https://lnkd.in/dn6KB-XM I've blogged about it here https://lnkd.in/ef8rWZwa At CABI we host a vast collection of research (15m records!) covering agriculture, the environment, human health and the applied life sciences. All these records are tagged with terms from our thesaurus. When I joined CABI two years ago I knew I wanted to change the way we worked on the data - we're now very happily using PoolParty Semantic Suite. I also knew I wanted to change the way we presented it to the public - how users would explore it, discover what it contains, and use it to retrieve relevant tagged records. A year ago, through a lovely jumble of Isaac Pattis, Mike Doane and the Semantic Web Company (SWC), I had the opportunity to task a group of students from the University of Washington Information School with reimagining how users might work with a thesaurus like ours. Let's face it: thesaurus implementations are a bit old fash yeah? You don't often see 'cgi-bin' in a URL these days, but ... Nick Passabet, Abigail Williams and Kaiden Ong came up with an awesome concept. I turned it into a working prototype. Philip Barton made it better. Caitlyn Tanner grimaced at my version and redesigned it so humans could actually use it. Vishnu Gautam did exceptional work bringing what you see now to life. Timothy Khouri kept us all in line and remained gracious as I added tickets to live sprints. Babita Sahu tested it and pointed out so many things the rest of us were too close to see. I loved every minute of working with them on this, and I get to carry on too, because we have a roadmap of fixes, improvements and feature enhancements to move on to. I remind myself this as I enter the Crippling Anxiety stage of this release. This is going to develop and evolve, and I'm excited about where we go from here. Take a look ...
