    🚀  From theory to practice - SimVantage at Provadis Hochschule in Frankfurt am Main! Last Friday and Saturday, we had the opportunity to bring #CFD & #bioreactorsimulations directly into the classroom at Provadis Hochschule. Thanks to Prof. Thomas Bayer, we hosted a guest lecture on reactor simulation - and even better, we got hands-on with our software together with the students. 🎓  The reaction? Enthusiasm! Seeing real-time simulation results and gaining deep insights into fluid dynamics sparked real excitement. Some students, already working in the field, compared our software to other tools - highlighting key takeaways: 💡 our physics-based approach delivers more advanced results, 💡  while other tools often offer more extensive & simplified input options. This direct feedback from future industry professionals is invaluable - it helps us make our software even more intuitive and impactful for everyday use! One discussion stood out: The history of #CFD tools and where we stand today. The evolution of simulations has been incredible, and we’re excited to be part of the next leap forward. 🙌 Big thanks to all the students who actively joined the discussion!     🔬 Why do we use LES - and why is it often too slow with conventional #CFD? Turbulence modeling is crucial for accurate bioreactor simulations. Many traditional CFD approaches rely on RANS - a fast model that oversimplifies fine details. LES (Large Eddy Simulation), on the other hand, captures turbulent structures with high precision. But there’s a catch: It’s extremely computationally intensive. 🚀 This is where Lattice Boltzmann changes the game. Instead of conventional CFD methods, we leverage a GPU-based Lattice Boltzmann approach, enabling LES simulations at significantly higher speeds - without compromising accuracy. Why does this matter? ✅ More detail: Accurate representation of mixing processes & shear forces. ✅ Faster than traditional LES: GPU-based computing makes detailed bioreactor simulations feasible. ✅ Highly adaptable: Can be combined with VOF for complex gas-liquid systems.     ✨ BNN spotlights Early Career Researchers ✨ Philipp Eibl is CTO and co-founder of SimVantage, one of our newest members! His team is working on novel approaches to simulate all the necessary physics in #bioprocessing production equipment in order to better understand why the development of these processes often doesn’t yield the desired output, takes longer than expected or simply fails. Specifically, they are using #GPU-powered algorithms to quantify the environment of each individual microorganism within a biotechnological reactor. This allows them to address bottlenecks on the productivity of such processes with far more certainty than any experiment could tell you. We interviewed Philipp in our December 2024 QUARTERLY.
