Vineyard Irrigation Systems Irrigation systems are a major investment; systems should be carefully planned and designed. Factors such as soil type, soil depth, effective rooting zone of the vines, vine density, water quality, land formation and economic factors such as the capital and operating costs, will all play a role in deciding the irrigation system. Irrigation systems should encourage vine growth while minimizing soil erosion, and water loss. Losses of water will occur due to evaporation, wind drift, run-off and water (and nutrients) sinking deep below the root zone. Irrigation systems for grapevines fall into several categories. Overhead sprinkler systems spray water into the air above the vines in a broadcast pattern. Flood or furrow irrigation systems that use gravity to distribute surface water to precision-graded vineyards. Under-the-vine irrigation systems are with drip or micro sprinkler. No single irrigation system is the solution for all vineyard situations; otherwise there would not be such a range of systems still available. 1.       Overhead Sprinkler Irrigation Overhead sprinkler irrigation is an irrigation system in which water is distributed throughout the vineyard by the aid of high-pressure overhead sprinklers mounted on high permanent standpipes that clear the tops of vines 2.       Drip Irrigation Drip irrigation is sometimes called trickle irrigation and involves dripping water onto the soil at very low rates from a system of small diameter plastic pipes fitted with outlets called emitters or drippers. Drip emitters come in two basic configurations: compensating and non-compensating. 3.       Furrow Irrigation Finally, with furrow irrigation, water is diverted from a main ditch generally into a channel running on either side of each row, or sometimes into a single central channel 4.       Micro-sprinkler Irrigation Micro-sprinkler irrigation systems are very similar to drip irrigation systems except that, rather than discharging water at discreet points, the water is sprayed out through a small sprinkler device . These microsprinklers are typically made of plastic and are available in a multitude of flow rates and spray patterns.

Donabaum is a well-known name in the town of Spitz in the Wachau. Christoph Donabaum is certainly one of the young winemakers with mega potential. In 2020 he took over the winery from his parents and continues to run it under his name. He now cultivates around 5 hectares with well-known vineyards such as: Offenberg, 1000-Eimerberg & Zornberg. Last year I first tasted his wines and let me tell you I was impressed, not only by his quality but value for money is amazing in an always increasing pricing off the Wachau Valley wines. My favorite was the Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Alte Kultur! Grapes from the vineyard Zornberg off 50+ year old vines. It has a concentrated nose of nice Pome fruit, Quince, Manderin with a touch of Beeswax. The minerality in this wine & touch of fresh acidity promise a longevity. #christophdonabaum #spitz #spitzergraben #smaragd #federspiel #vineawachau #vineawachaunobilisdistrictus #gneiss #urgestein #grünerveltliner #riesling #neuburger Vinea Wachau

Bond Winery: Wines that are diverse in their geographic representation and 'Grand Cru' in quality, all under the umbrella of one philosophy, one team, one mark. Sourced from select hillside estates, the Cabernet Sauvignon wines of BOND vividly demonstrate the range of Napa Valley's finest terroirs. From the more than eighty vineyards we have worked with over the past quarter century, we have slowly and vigilantly selected five sites. BOND became our covenant and shared commitment to produce only the best expression of the land. QUELLA is the name for the wine from a 3,5 hectare site located in the eastern hills overlooking the heart of the Napa Valley. Making its debut with the 2006 vintage, the name is derived from the German word for a pristine source or an artesian aquifer. This property is steeply sloped facing southwest. The site is an ancient riverbed composed of cobble and rocks interwoven with pockets of tufa (volcanic ash) that were uplifted during the last volcanic activity in the area. Quella displays an almost ethereal quality of blue fruits, graphite, and a vibrant, subtle finish. Ancient uplifted riverbed covered with Tufa (volcanic ash). Southwest Exposure. 130 – 180metre High The challenges of the 2017 vintage presented new learnings for this site of ancient river cobble and volcanic ash. Although Quella is known for its delicacy and precision, the vines retain a tremendous strength that has allowed them to thrive in a thoroughly Spartan environment. With the help of spring rains before budbreak the season culminated with an early harvest on September 5th and concluded two weeks later. The nose is classic Quella: fresh blue fruit and a nod towards minerality. This Quella demonstrates a zest for life that never shouts, but stands in perfect posture with a natural, beaming smile. The texture of the wine is effortless—light on its feet, yet simultaneously deep. The tannins follow an almost choreographed line on the palate. As the finish lingers, it feels remarkably comfortable in its skin for this early stage of its life. #napavalley #cabernetsauvignon #oakville

Save the best for Last! My Favorite Champagne from @champagnedavidleclapart! L’Apôtre Blanc de Blancs 100% Chardonnay from 60+ years old single-vineyard of La Pierre St-Martin. Fully vinified in old Domaine Leflaive barrels. Zero dosage. “Opulence and grandeur meet exotic fruits, almond and hyacinth in its multidimensional and arresting aromatics. Like a Grand Cru white Burgundy, L’Apôtre asserts itself with expansive power and palate-massaging pressure in the mouth which leads to a reverberating high-pitched rumble of a race car in its explosive umami-laden finish. #champagne #champagnedavidleclapart #trépail #premiercru #blancdeblancs #zerodosage #burgundy
