    Struggling to scale your corporate finance advisory firm? This was the number one problem I had. 😣 I have run three boutique advisory and investment firms. Often, the lack of junior support left me feeling stuck and frustrated. 🙄 After 15+ years in the business, I 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆. I should have focused on sourcing business and speaking to clients. Instead, I spent the evenings researching the market, creating long lists, and making presentations to finish the client projects on time and in the necessary quality.     What makes a top-tier junior analyst in advisory or investment firms? 🥇 Here's the profile every Senior Professional seeks. In my experience, several key characteristics define a top-tier analyst in advisory or investment firms. I call this the "(Super)Analyst DNA": 🔍 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹: Every small piece of data matters. 💬 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆: Speed and clarity are key. 🏆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: Taking full responsibility for the project to become a success. 🚀 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: Always staying a step ahead, pushing for clear guidance, deadlines, and feedback. 📅 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸-𝗶𝗻𝘀: Keeping everything on track. 🤓 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Do the results make sense?     𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝘀 I have founded three advisory firms and two investment firms, all of which were boutique or smaller firms. One major challenge I always faced was hiring junior analysts. 🤷♂️ The excellent ones wanted to start at big names, which I understand. The others were often too expensive for the quality and work they provided. Looking at the overall expense for a junior analyst, it’s a €75-100k commitment per year. The result? It wasn’t worth it. Here are my key takeaways: 🏢 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁: Junior analysts often prefer well-known brands at the start of their careers. ⚖️ 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝘀. 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: The expense of hiring doesn’t always match the value received. 💡𝗕𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: Smaller firms need to find creative solutions to attract and retain talent.
