By leveraging our skills, connections, and passion, we create real solutions that empower our community to rethink waste and embrace sustainable practices. We’re proud to be part of the movement driving the shift toward a circular economy, where nothing is wasted, and everything has value. We are a proud supporter of @Seamless Australia's pioneering clothing stewardship scheme. By joining this amazing initiative, we're joining forces with other responsible leaders across the industry to make clothing more sustainable. Together with all of the Seamless members and supporters we're committed to reducing the 200,000 tonnes of clothing waste that ends up in Australian landfill each year (picture Sydney Habour full of clothing every year) and achieving a circular clothing industry by 2030. Join us as we continue to strive to disrupt what we know as the "norm". Together we can refuse, re-wear, repair, remake and recycle with purpose!. @seamlessaustralia @seamless

#WorldCircularTextilesDay2024 World Circular Textiles day, takes place on 8th October every year. It's about exploring circularity progress from around the world across three themes, products & services, materials and people. The team at @worldcirculartextilesday reports, reflects, and celebrates the progress that circularity is making, and creates a roadmap to achieve full textiles circularity by 2050. What steps are you taking to help achieve full circularity by 2050? Can you imagine if there were better systems in place to repair, reuse, remake and recycle? We're not quite sure what this would look like but we are sure looking forward to being part of the solution and the journey with @seamlessaustralia. We are saddened to read that estimates for the global value of the circular economy by 2030 have declined. "At current growth rates, the glass and polymer recycling markets are on track to achieve zero-waste (95% recycling rate) by 2050. However, Pulp & Paper, Fabrics, Metals, and E-Waste are not on track." The path to a circular economy is full of challenges, especially for those industries like fabrics/fashion that have never really had a "recycling" program in place unlike paper/card, glass, plastic bottles etc. The fact is that we have been curbside recycling for 30+ years and that system still has much work to do. Therefore when we look at the fabric/fashion industry we don't have a choice but to take URGENT action. France's government and our own team at Seamless are making a start but it won't be enough without individuals doing their bit to disrupt the way we all purchase, wear and dispose of their garments. Education plays a massive role in changing behaviour. We know from being out educating different areas of the community that they feel powerless to change brands' behaviour around overproduction but many say they can't afford "slow fashion" and rely heavily on op-shops when they need to 'clean out' their unwanted textiles. BUT with op-shops only selling 10-15% of what they receive. We can no longer turn a blind eye and expect op-shops to do the heavy lifting. We need MANY systems, options and programs in place but without education about these options and programs, they will not succeed. We are proud of the work we do in this space. Please help us by sharing what we do with others. Here is Sarah O'Sell article about the state of the Circular Economy https://lnkd.in/g3eZr8Pi
