Meet Jeff Nichols, a seasoned fishing professional whose maritime career began in 1981. Jeff has held diverse roles, from skipper to pearl diver and prawn spotter, bringing unmatched expertise and adaptability to every voyage. Jeff joined A. Raptis & Sons in 2017 as a relief skipper and, in 2023, took the helm of the Kestrel Bay (our mothership). Jeff thrives on the strong camaraderie within the crew and the collaborative spirit of our vessels operating together in the Northern Prawn Fishery. When not navigating the pristine waters of Northern Australia, Jeff resides on the South Island of New Zealand and dedicates his time to ministry work. Meet Peter Maslen, one of the longest-serving skippers at A. Raptis & Sons. Peter has been with us since 1981, dedicating about five months each year to skippering the Territory Pearl in the Northern Prawn Fishery, located in the Gulf of Carpentaria. With over four decades of fishing experience, his passion for life at sea and the excitement of the catch remains just as strong today as it was 44 years ago. When he’s not on the open ocean, Peter calls Brisbane home, where he enjoys travelling and spending time with family and friends. Welcoming Home the Kestrel Bay! After an epic 9.5 day journey from the Gulf of Carpentaria, our mothership—the Kestrel Bay—has arrived in Brisbane. Since mid-March, the dedicated crew has been out at sea, sustainably harvesting Tiger Prawns from the Northern Prawn Fishery.
