"Single Mother of Six Living in Fear as Youth Gang Targets Her 15-Year-Old Son" A mother of six is living in constant fear with her children, with no support from the police or any services to protect them. Her 13-year-old son was brutally attacked last year, coming home covered in blood after being knifed by a group of teenage boys. The mother had to call an ambulance to rush him to the hospital. But now, those same attackers are out to finish the job, hunting him down to kill him. The mother and her five daughters live in terror every night, unable to sleep, knowing these boys are still after them. Today, things escalated again. The culprits, unable to find the boy, attempted to attack the mother herself. She is now sitting in a shopping center with her five terrified daughters, too scared to return home. The family has nowhere to turn, and no one is stepping in to help. This mother has reached out in desperation, and time is running out before tragedy strikes. Who will step up to provide a safe place for this single mother and her children before another violent attack happens—before someone is killed? This is a matter of life and death, and immediate intervention is needed. The images of her daughters and her son’s knife wounds from last year paint a devastating picture of a family on the brink, pleading for protection. Pleading for urgent help for the children to go to school & remain safe. #Mohamed #police #homeless #children #support

The power of peace award is a challenge in my journey, while most of my people are crying for peace. Smile

A Day of Mixed Emotions: Celebrating Peace Amidst Ongoing Struggles Today, I was honored to receive the Power of Peace award with many other deserving friend & colleagues at the International UN Peace Day event. While it’s a privilege, the celebration felt bittersweet. As we marked peace, I thought of those who are still far from it—Eritreans, Sudanese, Somalis, Ethiopians, Palestinians, and many others displaced, living in refugee camps, and suffering the horrors of human trafficking. For them, peace remains an elusive dream. Eritrea faces political repression and forced national service, pushing many to flee. Sudan endures civil wars and a humanitarian crisis with millions displaced. Somalia's decades of conflict leave it in turmoil, while Ethiopia is divided by ethnic violence. Palestinians in Gaza live under siege, continued bombardment (loss of life women & children for nearly a year) and Afghans face continuous war and upheaval. The Democratic Republic of Congo is rich in resources but beset by violence, and Syria is shattered by civil war. Lebanon, already struggling with the issue of missing persons, now faces new displacements due to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. These reflections remind me that this award represents a call to action. It symbolizes hope for a future where all these communities can truly celebrate peace. Until then, I will continue to advocate for their rights and dignity, hoping that next year, we can celebrate real, lasting peace. Enough suffering; it's time for genuine peace for all. #Mohamed #peace #war #conflict #UN #international

One of the most remarkable characteristics of the Prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him) was his unparalleled ability to forgive his enemies, even in the face of extreme adversity. Despite enduring years of persecution, mockery, and violence, he demonstrated immense patience and compassion. An example of this is when he forgave the people of Mecca after its peaceful conquest. Instead of seeking revenge for the injustices he and his followers had suffered, he proclaimed: “Go, for you are free,” extending forgiveness to all, including those who had once sought his life. This act of grace and magnanimity is a profound testament to his character as a mercy to all of humanity.

Today, I had the honor of attending a special Mawlud Elneby celebration, organized by Darulfetwa, the Islamic Council of Australia, to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Mohamed (PBUH). His unparalleled character, embodying compassion, integrity, and wisdom, has won the hearts and minds of over 2 billion people without the aid of modern technology. His legacy of love and loyalty endures, making him an everlasting example for humanity. The correct quote from the Quran is: Arabic: وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ )Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:107) English: “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds." (Quran, 21:107) This verse in Quran beautifully encapsulates the mission of the Prophet Mohamed (PBUH), as a source of mercy, compassion, and guidance for all of humanity. The event was attended by over 3,000 people, including the Premier of Victoria, Jacinta Allan, representatives from the state opposition, Hon. Peter Khalil on behalf of the Prime Minister, and numerous dignitaries from religious, business, & community sectors. The atmosphere was vibrant and joyful, with families from diverse backgrounds coming together in celebration. The Premier Allan spoke eloquently about the Prophet Mohamed as the ideal role model for humanity, & she added calling for peace & supporting immediate ceasefire in the Middle East. The celebration also featured a powerful drama portraying the ongoing suffering of children & families in Gaza, capturing the grief and resilience of those affected by the crisis. It was a profound reminder of the enduring struggle and the need for compassion and justice on behalf of humanity.

Honoring Dinner to celebrate Dr. Bruce Wong PhD award It was a great privilege to attend this event to honor a truly remarkable individual, Dr. Bruce Wong. Organized by our own brother and champion, Mr. Hussien Zemzemi, lastnight gathering to celebrate Dr. Bruce’s extraordinary journey and achievements. Arriving in this country as a refugee, Dr. Bruce has set a new benchmark for all refugees and asylum seekers to aspire to. His remarkable accomplishments in both academic and financial success have made him a role model for many. His PhD, coupled with his unwavering dedication to creating equitable access to education and opportunities for disadvantaged communities, is an inspiration to us all. Dr. Bruce’s philanthropy has not only supported the development and success of many in the refugee communities but has also transformed lives in very tangible ways. Through his generous sponsorships, particularly for refugee women striving to improve their skills in food handling and services at Africause, Dr. Bruce has empowered them to achieve independence & success. His vision extends far beyond the individuals he directly helps; it uplifts entire families and communities. Quoting, “Mark Twain, the 19th-century American writer, emphasized the long-term impact of education. He metaphorically stated that “education washes away the dust of ignorance and prejudice from the mind,” highlighting its profound and transformative effect on individuals. This metaphor underscores how education purifies and enlightens from within, fostering critical thinking and personal growth”. Dr. Bruce’s kindness and commitment have opened doors & created possibilities where there were once only challenges. You have shown us the profound impact one person can make when they choose to act with empathy and generosity. His legacy will be felt for generations to come, & we are all deeply grateful for your support. Last night, we celebrated not just his PhD achievements but his humanity, compassion, & tireless efforts to make this world a better place. Thank you, Dr. Bruce, for being a beacon of hope for refugees & a champion for change. Thank you for setting the bench mark for all refugees in this country, success is with a striking distance. Everyone can achieve. #mohamed #education #knowledge #charity #philanthropic #humanity #refugee #role model

Tackling the Housing Crisis for Single Mothers and Vulnerable Populations in the Western Suburbs The housing crisis in the Western suburbs is devastating single mothers and their children. Every day at Africause, we witness the struggles of visitors—whether it’s a young woman, an elderly individual, a young girl, or a single mother with children—desperately seeking immediate accommodation. Despite our relentless efforts to engage with various services, including the Department of Housing, Unison, WMCA, the Salvation Army, etc. we are facing little to no success. The situation is even more critical for homeless individuals dealing with mental health challenges, addiction, or those recently released from prison. With no housing options available, some are driven to commit crimes just to secure a roof over their heads and a guaranteed meal in prison. It’s a tragic and cyclical pattern. We are in urgent need of help. Any suggestions, connections, or philanthropic support would be a lifeline. Heartbreakingly, some mothers have no choice but to surrender their children to child protection, torn apart by the situation. Tragically, these children often find themselves in abusive environments or drawn into criminal activities, driven by anger and a sense of vengeance. We cannot continue to let this crisis go unaddressed. Our cries for help remain unanswered, and it's clear that mental health, addiction, and homelessness require a health-focused approach—not police intervention. We need real solutions now. #mohamed #homeless #singlemothers #mentalhealth

Enough is enough, zero tolerance to crime in our suburbs? Smile

“Title: Urgent Action Needed to Prevent Further Tragedies in Our Suburbs” The crime unfolding in our suburbs every weekend is happening right before our eyes, and we remain unprepared to act. The police only arrive after the damage is done. This week alone, three mothers came to Africause, just like so many before them, pleading for help. Their children are either on the verge of becoming victims or perpetrators, yet no one is listening. One mother shared that her son was rejected by all schools and ended up in jail. Her other son was sent overseas to escape a similar fate, but the authorities help him to returned, no school would accept him, TAFE won’t accept him either. Now, at 17, he’s sitting at home, vulnerable to anything that might happen next. Another mother lost four of her children after they were expelled from school, with no way back. The remaining children are on the same path, as schools have become hostile due to their skin color and physical stature other factors. She desperately wants to prevent them from dropping out, but she’s out of options. A third mother lost one son to violence, and now her other son, struggling with mental health issues, is at risk of committing a crime. She doesn't know where to turn for help. (he is now in detention Centre). These are just the last three days. How many more families have to suffer, losing their children, before help is provided? Mothers are spending sleepless nights from Friday to Sunday, terrified that their sons will be the next to die. How long will we allow this carnage in our suburbs to continue? This crisis demands a whole-of-government approach—it's not just a police issue, but one that requires the involvement of all services. Schools, too, must take responsibility. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the victims and their families affected by the Caroline Springs stabbing last weekend. To the families involved, we stand with you in this difficult time. For more on this, please see the news video. How many more children need to be lost before we take action? (https://lnkd.in/gkQEJbYG)

    Humanitarian fair process

View profile for Berhan Ahmed JP, graphic

Victorian Australian of the year 2009

Urgent Call for Fair and Equitable Refugee Sponsorship Process As Australia welcomes Hon Tony Burke MP as the new Minister of Home Affairs, there is a pressing need to address the significant disparities in how African refugees are treated within the country’s humanitarian process. Delays and inconsistencies in processing times, particularly for those from the Horn of Africa, are exacerbating their already difficult situations. Many African refugees have been waiting over five years with no resolution to their offshore status. Recent announcements suggest that processing times under the Community Support Program (CSP) could now extend to four years or more, a significant departure from the initial expectation of one to one and a half years (https://lnkd.in/diepXDxv). For refugees who have already endured years of uncertainty, this prolonged delay is devastating. The extended wait time further exacerbates their difficult circumstances, leaving them in a state of ongoing limbo and uncertainty. Key issues include: - Re-evaluating the CSP Scheme: The recent extension of the Community Support Program (CSP) processing times to four years places an undue financial burden on sponsors and endangers those awaiting resettlement. This decision needs urgent reconsideration. - Ensuring Fair Treatment: The stark disparity in the treatment of African refugees compared to others must be corrected to ensure equitable consideration for all applicants. - Re-evaluating Visa Policies: The criteria and procedures for tourist and family visa applications from the Horn of Africa require reassessment to guarantee fair and transparent processing. - Supporting Existing Refugees: The government should enhance support for refugees already in Australia under humanitarian schemes, aiding their successful settlement and contribution to nation-building. Australia’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian principles demands that all individuals, regardless of origin, are treated with fairness, dignity, and compassion. It is crucial for the federal government to act swiftly to rectify these disparities and provide African refugees with the fair and equitable access to opportunities they deserve. #mohamed #humanitarian #refugees
