About us
Addi Road is an independent charity elevating human rights, arts & culture and sustainability. We run our numerous programs and events on a 3.6 hectare former army depot site in Marrickville, Sydney, without government funding. This includes our low-cost food-rescue Food Pantry grocery stores in Marrickville and Camperdown. We believe access to safe, nutritious and culturally appropriate food is a human right. Needing help to makes ends meet is often stigmatising. We offer anyone in need a way to shop with dignity – no proof of income or visa status is required. We also provide spaces for numerous nonprofits, artists and community groups on our grounds.

🥪The end of the school term always feels like a party and especially this week with Addi Road’s School Breakfast program rolling out a delicious, nutritious brekkie spread for students at four local schools. Eating a nutritious breakfast is scientifically proven to improve student concentration, motivation and achievement, and we’ve been told it’s also increasing attendance at the schools where students are starting their day with Addi Road’s light continental breakfast of cereals, scrambled eggs, toasties, fresh fruit, juices and snack packs. Addi Road relies almost entirely on the generosity of the community for the work we do with our food justice program, which is now feeding 8500 people every week, and providing over 10,000 school breakfasts, a number which is increasing every term. With thanks to Petersham RSL Club for providing funding through the NSW Clubs Grant, Addi Road is continuing doing everything we can to keep anyone from going hungry in our community. #addiroad #marrickville #camperdown #innerwestsyd #innerwestsydney #schoolsbreakfast #schoolsNSW

🌱 At Addi Road, the rescued food that we cannot redistribute before spoilage does not go to landfill or distant industrial composting facilities. We mix this wet, green, nitrogen-rich material with dry, brown, carbon-rich materials like leaves and sawdust and process them in our composting systems to produce rich organic soil to replenish the depleted soils and feed the plants on site. We're lucky to have our site and sustainability manager Ashley oversee such projects. Stay tuned for more urban ecology tips from Ash! #AddiRoad #urbanfood #urbangardening #urbanecology #Marrickville #innerwestsydney #innerwest #camperdown #fyp #foryoupage

Each year on 17 September it is Australian Citizenship Day. Addi Road Community Organisation was honoured to welcome over 200 people to take part in their citizenship ceremony in Sydney today – as well as celebrate the 75th anniversary of the ceremony as a vital part of Australian life. Since it began in 1949 more than 6 million people have chosen to become Australian citizens, the numbers alone a rich marker of our multicultural history as a country. The warmth of the occasion – a sense of something that truly mattered to all who were involved – was evident from the moment the doors of Gumbramorra Hall opened and people began filing in. Individuals and couples, families and friends, the old and the very young, so many different nationalities and generations gathering as one for their special day. The Honourable Tony Burke MP – the Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Minister for Cyber Security, Minister for the Arts, and Leader of the House – gave the keynote address. MC for the occasion was Ms Sneha Chatterjee, A/g First Assistant Secretary for the Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Division and Regional Director New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory for the Australian Department of Home Affairs. VIP guests sharing the stage included Rosanna Barbero, the CEO for the Addison Road Community Organisation (‘Addi Road’) and Simon Chan AM, Director and Founder of Art Atrium. Darran Williams from the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council offered up an Acknowledgement of Country and a cultural performance, deep blasts of didge and clapstick tapping against the black, yellow and red painted ironwood as Williams breathed out a timeless song, putting people into another state of mind and sense of place... ~ READ the full story with photos from Australian Citizenship Day in our website link here https://lnkd.in/gHGmfuaP #addiroad #australiancitizenshipceremony #Marrickville #multiculturalism #tonyburke #simonchan #homeaffairs #homespirit #75thanniversary #community #connection #language #gadigal #eora #welcome #socialcohesion #stories #pride #auscitz75 #australiancitizenship #pledge #ceremony #unity

🤘Congratulations Audrey Storer for winning the 2024 Mid-Western Sydney Young Volunteer of the Year Audrey has given her time to set up and run the Addi Road Youth Collective and Addi Rock Festival. Her work has helped bring together more than 300 young people under the age of 18 to collect food and make and distribute hampers for people in need. Audrey has been the driving force behind the festival, as a way to help underage bands get on stage, and for people of all ages to enjoy more live music. #AddiRoad #marrickville #addirock #addiyouth #camperdown #livemusicsydney #innerwestsydney
