Australia’s biggest arts festival: 21 Feb - 23 Mar 2025

About us

Adelaide Fringe is an annual open-access arts festival run over four weeks in Adelaide, South Australia during February and March. It is the biggest ticket selling arts festival in Australia, and the second biggest Fringe festival in the world. It began in 1960 as an alternative to the Adelaide Festival of the Arts which offered only limited opportunity for local artists. Unlike a curated festival, the open-access nature of Adelaide Fringe means that anyone with a show, exhibition or cultural event is able to register and be part of Australia’s largest arts event. The result is one of the most diverse arts festivals in the world, renowned for fresh ideas, spontaneity and fun. Artists from around Australia and across the globe participate alongside home-grown talent, in art forms spanning cabaret, comedy, circus, dance, film, theatre, puppetry, music, visual art & design. Key to the operation of Adelaide Fringe is its role to support, encourage and facilitate registered artists, presenters and venues. It works to ensure that artists and presenters have the best possible experience, right through from the registration process to their performances and exhibitions. What differentiates Adelaide Fringe from many other Fringe Festivals in the world is that alongside the ticketed open access program are the Fringe produced and/or supported special free events, which run throughout the program. Adelaide Fringe is honored to be the recipient of the Access Advocate Award, presented by Fringe Accessibility Partner Guide Dogs SA/NT at this morning's World Sight Day 2024 Event at Government House. Over the years, #ADLfringe has supported members of the community living with low vision or blindness by providing Fringe Volunteers with Human Guide Training. We look forward to continuing this program alongside Guide Dogs SA/NT, as well as other initiatives with our Accessibility Partners in our efforts to become the most inclusive festival in the world. Now wrapped up for another year, the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe became a global stage for Australian artists, with a remarkable presence from participants from this year’s Adelaide Fringe that captivated audiences, earned critical acclaim, and showcased the strength of talent emerging from this major arts hub. Notably, Adelaide Fringe award-winning artists Lewis Major, Michelle Pearson, Britt Plummer and Sam Kissajukian enjoyed sold-out performances, and through the Honey Pot marketplace, have connected with touring programmers to take their work globally. 🌟 Today's your annual reminder to check in with the people around you, ANY day 🌟 R U OK? Day is about starting conversations to support one another in ways big and small. Our vibrant Fringe community is more than just performers and audiences—it's a network of friends, family, and colleagues. Every smile, every conversation, and every performance is a chance to reach out and make a difference. This year, we’re excited to announce that ACCESS Programs is partnering with Adelaide Fringe to extend their Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to all registered artists and volunteers. This partnership is a tangible step towards fostering a culture where mental health is prioritised every day, not just on R U OK Day. ACCESS Programs collaborates with organisations across Australia to promote positive organisational behaviour, enhance individual wellbeing, and improve workplace productivity. Their EAP offers free, voluntary, and confidential counselling services to assist with personal, family, or work issues impacting your wellbeing or quality of life. Qualified counsellors use short-term, solution-focused techniques to help resolve these issues. Learn more about Employee Assistance Program (EAP) here: www.accesssa.com.au 📸: Jenny Kwok

This morning, our board and leadership team participated in History Trust of South Australia Impact program, to gain an enhanced understanding of the key issues in Aboriginal and contact history, the dispossession of Aboriginal people and its legacy of racism. Today's session is just one outcome of our cultural learning strategy, which aims to foster greater understanding, appreciation and engagement with Indigenous cultures among staff, volunteers and key stakeholders.
