✨ Reflecting on a successful 2024 Annual Research Symposium! ✨ On Wednesday 30 October, UNSW Ageing Futures Institute members and colleagues gathered for the 2024 Annual Research Symposium to showcase ageing research and innovative solutions for an ageing society. This year's theme, Responding to Societal Challenges in Ageing, set the stage for a day to showcase the impact of ageing research at UNSW. From dynamic sessions on reimagining aged care, advancing AI and innovation, and supporting culturally diverse ageing communities, to an engaging panel discussion with Professor Michael Kidd, Professor Rebecca Ivers AM FAHMS FRSN and Professor Bingqin Li on "Balancing Academic Excellence and Societal Impact" - the event fostered robust dialogue and collaboration. Another highlight of the event was the exceptional keynote address from Commissioner Robert Fitzgerald AM, Age Discrimination Commissioner, whose insights underscored the importance of inclusive research, policies, and practices for older Australians. We also celebrated the outstanding contributions of our Early-Career Researchers in Ageing, presenting awards for Best Poster Exhibition and Best Rapid-Fire Presentation, as well as recognising Excellence in Interdisciplinary Research and Future Ageing Impact. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this fantastic event—we look forward to continuing to work together to advance research that shapes a better future for an ageing society. About us
The UNSW Ageing Futures Institute is a global leader in ageing research and research translation, making a visible and positive impact on ageing both nationally and internationally. The Institute continues to drive excellence in health, social and policy outcomes in response to the major challenges and opportunities in ageing. Our research is interdisciplinary in nature, bringing together researchers from different disciplines working toward a common goal. The Institute draws together experts from across all UNSW Faculties. By capatilising on partnerships with a growing number of government, industry, community and academic collaborators, we ensure our research is translatable across the full spectrum of issues relating to ageing. We take a life-course approach to ageing, that is we consider the events, choices, situations and influences of individuals from birth, and how these factors accumulate and impact ageing. We want people to not only live longer, but to age optimally throughout all stages of life.
