Allyship - 21 March 2025 | 12:30pm AEDT. An online event hosted by Parlour Inc: gender, equity, architecture What does it mean to have and be an ally? Join Debjani Sarkar and Lameesa Yousuf On the Verandah for a conversation about allyship with Gerhana Waty and Craig Czarny. This session of On the Verandah takes a close look at the value and power of allyship, with Gerhana Waty and Craig Czarny. What is an ally and how can allies make a difference to individual careers? How can allyship be acquired, utilised and harnessed to counteract unconscious biases in practice and improve equity for all? Why do allies matter? Allyship is an important tool for addressing bias and inequity. The data on cultural and gender pay gaps reveals significant inequity within the profession. This data indicates that people from Asia, proportionally experience more barriers rising to senior levels of the profession, and that this impacts women most strongly. These findings, while not shocking, reflect a systemic issue in the way labour is valued within practice and beyond. They point to unacceptable biases within the profession that need to be dismantled – and allyship is one tool for doing this. Join Parlour On the Verandah for another invigorating conversation exploring the power and importance of allies. >>> When & where Online, Friday 21 March 2025 12.30–1.30pm AEDT For more information, please head to: https://lnkd.in/gAm-DNmf

Congratulations to the AILA ACT Chapter for hosting another successful, annual Margaret Hendry Lecture, held at the iconic Shine Dome in the week of #IWD2025. Wonderfully MC'd by ACT President Gay Williamson, the panellists included AILA fellow Maria Rigoli, Lucinda (Lucy) Hughes Turnbull AO, and Jane Jose OAM FAICD who spoke to the topic "Places women make". The three speakers provided insights in to both macro and micro influences women make by bringing a unique perspective and a different way of being to lead to better outcomes. Those in attendance were both touched and impressed by both the large achievements and impact of the speakers, and also the smaller personal touches that add up to create change. Also present in the evening was AILA Director and Company Secretary Cia Flannery. Congratulations to NSW/ACT Chapter manager Joanna McAndrew for making the magic happen and ensuring everyone had a wonderful night. Thank you also to those who attended. See you next year!

Located on Jawoyn Country, Nitmiluk National Park is a place of beauty and culture. Nestled within this landscape is Baruwei Lookout, offering unparalleled views over the gorge. Landscape architects at CLOUSTON Associates were engaged to masterplan, design, and document the Baruwei Lookout and loop trail as part of the GHD project team. The lookouts and trail design incorporates simple organic forms, colours, and materials that blend into the landscape. The viewing decks and trail wrap around rock outcrops, providing changing viewpoints for day-to-day activities and the bustling peak period at sunset. It has become a must-visit destination for any Nitmiluk National Park visit. This project was awarded with the 2024 AILA Award of Excellence for Tourism, 2024 AILA NT Award of Excellence for Tourism and 2024 AILA NT Regional Achievement Award. Of this project, the national awards jury stated: "Baruwei Lookout has provided significant tourism benefit for the Katherine area by providing a more accessible opportunity to visit the gorge safely for the much-sought-after sunset viewing.
