Today, AITSL bids farewell to Deputy CEO Edmund Misson GAICD as he moves on to become Head of the Innovation and Measuring Progress Division, Directorate for Education and Skills at the OECD - OCDE in Paris. Since joining AITSL in 2011, Edmund has played a pivotal role in shaping Australian education. While it's impossible to list all his achievements, a few truly stand out. Edmund led the development of the Registration Framework, Initial Teacher Education Accreditation Standards and Procedures and the Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Certification policy. Edmund also established AITSL’s Research and Evaluation function and played a key role in creating the Teaching Performance Assessment in response to the Teacher Education Ministerial Advisory Group (TEMAG) report. Since taking on the Deputy CEO role in 2016, Edmund led several initiatives that have become central to AITSL’s ongoing work, including the establishment of the Australian Teacher Workforce Data, the expansion of international partnerships and the management of current Grant Agreements with the Australian Government Department of Education. Edmund’s leadership, calm demeanour and sense of humour have made a lasting impact. Thanks to his efforts, AITSL is well-positioned for continued success. Edmund, AITSL wishes you all the best in Paris. And remember, if you miss us, we’ll happily accept postcards and French pastries as gifts! Thank you for everything, Edmund. Your contributions have shaped AITSL and Australian education for years to come. We invite you to join us in wishing Edmund all the best in his exciting new role. Please share your well wishes in the comments below!

🔥 All eyes are on Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers (HALTs) – especially with the HALT Summit coming up in May! We love celebrating these expert educators and the impact they make every day. Every new HALT certification and every trained HALT assessor is a win – not just for them, but for their colleagues and students. As Danielle Cuthbert puts it: “I’m so grateful to be part of a system that supports and promotes growth in their teachers so we can ultimately bring about the best for our students.” Australia is lucky to have so many outstanding teachers and leaders, and we’d love to see even more recognised for their expertise. 👇 Learn more about HALT certification: https://lnkd.in/gCSTUaCR 🧐 Benefits of becoming an assessor: https://lnkd.in/gzNetN2K 🎉 Info on the HALT Summit: https://lnkd.in/gwqGkCcY #HALT #ExpertTeachers #EducationLeadership #HALTSummit2025 #AITSL

🚀 What an incredible day! The first face-to-face Professional Learning Day of the CSBB Middle Leaders Program – Professional Conversations Module was a true highlight. We were joined by expert facilitators from our Human Resources- Capability & Enablement of our People Team who shared invaluable insights and fostered deep discussions. I had the privilege of leading a session on Australian Institute for Teaching & School Leadership (AITSL) Middle Leaders Standards reflection, guiding participants through the Thinking Routine – Connect, Challenge, Extend. This exercise gave our middle leaders the opportunity to dig deep, challenge their thinking, and apply their learning to their own school contexts and spheres of influence. From engaging elevator pitches to song-filled moments, it was a day filled with inspiration, reflection, and growth. I’m excited to see how these leaders continue to impact their teams and schools with the knowledge and skills they’ve gained. #MiddleLeaders #ProfessionalLearning #LeadershipDevelopment #CSBB #AITSL #SchoolLeadership #ContinuousImprovement

Great message Stephen. A special thanks for acknowledging the important role of our teachers and school leaders in supporting Australia’s children and young people to participate in NAPLAN this year.
Just want to say good luck to the 1.3 million students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 taking part in #NAPLAN assessments starting today. On behalf of Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) a big thank you to our fantastic teachers and schools across all jurisdictions and sectors for all their efforts to get ready for NAPLAN, especially in those areas impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. And, of course, thank you to all the parents and carers for supporting their child during the NAPLAN test period. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but helps education authorities, schools, parents and carers to see how Australian children are reaching important literacy and numeracy goals and are progressing against national standards. This year, when the results come out, you will be able to compare how the same cohort of students have progressed in their NAPLAN assessment results since 2023 when the annual test changed from being held in March instead of May and set against the new proficiency levels.
