It’s in The Times, so Anacta’s London team is now official. Having Teddy Ryan , Shonagh Munro and Ben Taumoepeau is a great team to kick off our London office. Their skills bring together the campaign, government and political strategy at the heart of Anacta. As Labour specialists, we’ve always hired the best people to help business, NFPs and campaigns understand the policy priorities that drive decisions in Labour governments. And for Teddy, Shonagh and Ben - they’re into the thick of it, getting underway in the week of Chancellor Rachel Reeves first budget of the Starmer Labour Government.

While the #election on Saturday didn’t deliver a win for Queensland Labor, our kudos to Steven Miles and his team for a campaign well-fought, advancing initiatives that reflected Labor’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of everyday Queenslanders. Winning a fourth term of government is always a huge challenge. But the dedication and energy Steven and Qld Labor, led by Kate Flanders, brought to this campaign meant an election that had been widely predicted to be an LNP landslide was converted to a tight race. Thanks also to the thousands of Australian Labor Party members, staff and supporters who have worked hard in their own communities to uphold our values and our vision. Particularly, we send our commiserations to the MPs who have lost their seats after serving in the Palaszczuk and Miles Labor Governments. #QLDPol #Queensland #electioncampaign Photo credit: Qld Labor

Our co-founder Evan Moorhead spent the week in London, catching up with colleagues including Ben Taumoepeau as well as Anacta's UK-based clients, but he'll be back in time to see the results come in from voting in the #Queensland #election on Saturday. And as Evan teases here, stand by for an announcement about our London activities soon. #campaignstrategy #publicaffairs
A week in London is coming to an end, and now it is the long trek home for the Queensland election on Saturday. London’s been a great opportunity to spend time with UK Labour friends and Anacta’s UK based clients in person. It definitely beats peering at each other on Teams at odd hours of the night. Keep an eye out: we’ll have some exciting news on Anacta in the UK in the near future.

If you're only just tuning into the Queensland state election campaign and you'd like to catch up on all the shenanigans, or you've been watching the news already but would like to do a deep dive before polling day (this Saturday, 26 October), or you're simply a self-confessed political junkie, the Socially Democratic podcast is a gold mine of information and insights. We're biased because one of host Stephen Donnelly's guest commentators for this campaign has been our founding director Evan Moorhead. Evan is joined by former Queensland Treasurer Jackie Trad and it's clear from their conversations that this pair knows what it's like to be in the #electioncampaign trenches, not just reading about it in the morning papers.
On this week's episode of Socially Democratic, Stephen was joined by former Queensland Treasurer, Jackie Trad, and former QLD Labor Campaign Director, Evan Moorhead. Jackie and Evan are back for week two and, with less than ten days left in the election, there was a lot to talk about. From the latest “exit polling” results and Labor’s campaign launch, our panel will share their insights on how the Queensland election is shaping up. Wanna make a difference this election? Find out how here: https://lnkd.in/g7jmk7iy Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Dunn Street. Yun Choi has been a partner with the people of Townsville, and the Queensland Government. There is a lot at stake in the current takeover proposed for Korea Zinc. As Premier and Trade Minister, I worked closely with Yun on our shared vision - to ensure that renewable energy investment in regional Australia would support the growth of value-add refining to the resources sector. It is a tribute to Yun that his efforts in Australia were recognised in 2019, and now he is the Global CEO of Korea Zinc, the parent company to Sun Metals and Ark Energy. And now as an Ambassador for the Smart Energy Council, I know how important Ark Energy’s investment pipeline in hydrogen, solar and wind renewable energy are for Australia’s regional economy. I hope some common sense can prevail in this takeover, and Yun’s leadership on renewable energy can be maintained. https://lnkd.in/gVrSVQrY

"You've got to be willing to try and win the argument that's happening in the world, whatever that is." That was the campaign advice from our co-founder David Nelson when he met up with Tom Minear, News Corp Australia's correspondent, at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago recently. Whether it's aimed at winning #elections or making an impact for organisations in their advocacy efforts, successful strategic communications is about identifying the issues and values that matter to your target audiences, and connecting in language that resonates with them. Read more of David's insights, drawn from his many years experience working on election campaigns in Australia and, most recently, in the UK, in Tom's story (paywalled). https://lnkd.in/gCStjdgA

While our co-founder David Nelson was in Chicago for the #DemocraticNationalConvention, our research partners Talbot Mills Research were asking Australians how they would vote, if they had the chance to choose between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. The results are fascinating - especially when you compare them to the Trump v Biden match-up a month earlier. Yes, Talbot Mills polled that question too - while our globetrotting #campaignstrategist David Nelson was in London, working with Labour Party (UK) on another historic election campaign. As we say: the work never stops! Patricia Karvelas writes about the research insights today on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)'s news website, with some thoughts from David Nelson and David Talbot. https://lnkd.in/g-gAb3ah
Harris or Trump? If Australians were voting, the result would be a landslide

It's about six weeks since our co-founder David Nelson celebrated with the UK Labour campaign team after Labour's historic general election victory. After a brief run home to Australia, he's now in Chicago for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. The work never stops. #DNC #uselections #campaignstrategy
It’s brilliant to be here in Chicago for what should be a an interesting convention. It’s also a great chance to catch up with campaign professionals from around the world and compare notes.

One of those rare occasions when we get to see everyone in person, rather than on Teams. Last week be brought the Anacta team together from across Australia, New Zealand and UK. After a couple of days of working through how we improve the work we do, there was some “enforced fun” and some humour (often at my expense!) I’m proud of the team we’ve put together- a talented and committed bunch who bring a wide range of political insights. And what’s more, they even bring some good humour and fun to the task.

It’s great to be back home after an epic few months in the UK. I’m looking forward to watching the Starmer Government deliver its missions. I’m also looking forward to Anacta expanding its footprint in the UK. Stay tuned!
