Imagine getting up close and personal to one of the world’s most critically endangered species in one of the most remote places in Australia? For our ALC Rangers, preserving culture is an important part of their job. Hawksbill sea turtles have called Groote Eylandt’s satellite islands home for the past millennia. That’s why ALC Rangers recently teamed up Traditional Owners to undertake turtle monitoring - ensuring culture and hawksbill turtles thrive for generations. #preservingculture #endangeredspecies #TraditionalOwners

Did you know #Garma is an important meeting point for clans like the Anindilyakwa? A group of 20 Anindilyakwa people from Groote Eylandt recently made the 207-kilometre journey north to share stories and song lines which stretch back millennia. The ALC and our Anindilyakwa community are proud supporters of Australia’s largest Indigenous gathering, the powerful Garma Festival. The Garma gathering not only showcases traditional song, dance and storytelling but also provides a key forum policy conference. Topics include land rights, health, education, economic development and government funding – all things important to the ALC and part of our local decision-making agreements. #garmafestival #garma2024 #yolngucountry #yolnguculture #bunggul #manikay #yothuyindi #arnhemland #culturalfestival #indigenousfestival #aboriginalfestival #northeastarnhemland #gulkula #gove #govepeninsula #nhulunbuy #ntaustralia #FirstNations #EconomicInclusion #IndigenousAustralia #IndigenousEconomicEmpowerment

This week, we welcomed National Indigenous Australians Agency to Groote Eylandt to view our progress on the Little Paradise development, which will support aquaculture, tourism, timber milling and the activities of Traditionally-Owned Winchelsea Mine. 12 months ago, there was nothing here and now we have exciting new enterprises with the aquaculture facility and workforce accommodation. #localdecisionmaking #economicdevelopment #closingthegap #Anindilyakwa
