POV: You're in your 20s and decide to pack up your life and move overseas to a country where you don't speak their language.   Meet 陈佳萱 (Angie Chen), ANZ China's Head of Multinationals, who did just that – moving from Taipei to Ho Chi Minh City without a job or a word of Vietnamese.     Angie had been in Ho Chi Minh City a few years when she set her sights on ANZ. “Being proactive and not hesitating to ask for opportunities” is what Angie says led to her being appointed ANZ Vietnam’s Head of Greater China.    Over two decades in Vietnam, and now in China, she has managed banking relationships with the world’s biggest corporations. As ANZ China’s Head of Multinationals, she helps them navigate slowing GDP, rate cuts and fierce competition to grow their business globally.    “You unleash potential when you step outside the box. The fears that hold us back are often mere illusions, shattered by our courage,” is Angie's life and career advice.     When’s the last time you took a leap of faith and made a bold career move?

Hey, #engineers 👋   Does a huge chunk of your workday include trouble shooting and bug fixing code?    It’s a challenge we face too. Zachary Brown, one of our Automation Engineers, along with his colleagues Kelly Amber and Carl Rajakumar, are building simple solutions for complicated problems. They’ve been using GitHub Copilot to generate code for app development.    "It’s a process that went from months to weeks, mainly through reducing errors and easing the learning curve."    "GitHub Copilot trains the user up to understand the situation and process meaning you’re working with it rather than for it. I think it’s at the stage where it’s time to start viewing using GitHub Copilot as another tool in the tool belt. It’s going to do for developers what the calculator did for mathematicians."    Our engineers are using generative #AI tools, responsibly, to boost productivity and innovation across the workforce.     To read Zachary's insights on GitHub Copilot, check out the ANZ Engineering Way blog: https://lnkd.in/grW8pjc8

"It might sound like a strange thing to say but, I fell in love with the banking environment during a summer job I had. I felt I could really make a difference in the corporate world; leveraging a big brand like ANZ can allow you to do great things for the community.” Meet Carina Parisella, self-described ‘accidental banker’ and technologist. She’s been with ANZ for 13 years and has always been passionate about helping others grow. She’s led initiatives like the Technology Early Talent Program and the award-winning Return to Work Program. Carina is now focused on building the AI literacy of our employees, starting with the recently announced ANZ AI Immersion Centre. “The ANZ AI Immersion Centre is part of our broader AI education and adoption strategy. At first, it’s a conversation starter, where we can show our people what’s possible and help them explore ideas for integrating AI at-scale across our business, to drive better outcomes for our people and our customers.” In partnership with Microsoft 3,000 ANZ leaders will be upskilled in AI over the next 12 months: https://lnkd.in/gjECwijn Oh, and if you’re wondering about the dog, it’s Carina’s French Bulldog, ‘Aragorn’, transformed into a Lord of the Rings character using AI.

“I'm passionate about helping customers who have been scammed because we want to prevent anyone losing their hard-earned money and peace of mind to organised crime.”   “The impact is not just financial – scams can destroy a victim’s emotional health, trust and confidence and can have severe impacts on their family, friends and community.   Meet Ruth Talalla, ANZ Scams Portfolio Lead. Here's a look inside what our Customer Protection teams do. They are usually busy monitoring new scam types and collaborating with government and other organisations to make Australia an unattractive target for scammers.   “Everyone plays a role in preventing funds going to cyber-criminals. Our goal is to empower customers with the knowledge to identify scams and know what steps to take if they fall victim.”   Ruth is an expert on the evolving landscape of scams, including how we can keep ourselves, our family and our friends safe. Meet our longest serving employee, Lyn Rock, aka ‘Rocky’, who just marked her 55-year anniversary with ANZ. She remembers the turn of the millennium when the running theory was date reliant technology would fail and all dates would go back to the year 1900, which for a bank meant that the computer would calculate the usual daily interest at minus 100 years. Lyn was a part of the program leading our response. Starting at the Myrtleford branch, in rural Victoria in 1969, Lyn reflects on how different things were back then, especially for women.     "Women had to leave the bank once they were married, they were not allowed to join a superannuation fund until they were 25 years old and women could also not qualify for any type of loan. On the other hand, women (and men) could happily smoke in offices and branches. Thankfully all these practices have been consigned to the historical rubbish bin."    Read Lyn’s full career story here: https://lnkd.in/g2tVi4Wk

"I love seeing firsthand what good partnerships can do. For example, our financial education programs help lower income families budget and plan for the future, allowing them to do things we take for granted; like paying for school excursions or buying an additional set of school uniforms for their children.    “The importance of developing and fostering effective partnerships, in order to address many of the problems we see in society cannot be understated," says Janet Liu, ANZ’s Head of Social Impact and Community Partnerships.         ANZ and Partnerships Brokers Association recently launched the ANZ-PBA Partnering Award to celebrate partnerships that demonstrate collaboration between organisations which address a social or environmental issue. The winning partnership will receive professional development opportunities with PBA up to the value of $6,000 (incl. GST).      "Partnerships are important to me because they bring together expertise and resources to tackle complex challenges more effectively. For me, this award means that we can help improve the understanding of good partnering practices to ultimately deliver long term benefits for the Australian community."         Applications for the ANZ-PBA Partnering Award are now open and close Friday 16 August.
