Biofilms grow on all surfaces and environments, from catheters to drinking water pipes and ships. They are complex organisations of cells that grow on both living and inert surfaces and are both viscous and elastic in nature. Our centre aims to transform biofouling management strategies for maritime platforms by building on local and international expertise to mentor and train the next generation of interdisciplinary scientists and engineers. Anticipating evolving regulatory stringency, this project expects to establish a dynamic environment for industry partners, students and scientists to collaborate and develop biofilm management strategies.
The Training Centre is managed across three university Nodes (Flinders University, Swinburne University and the University of Tasmania) in close collaboration with our partners: ASC Pty Ltd, BAE Systems Maritime Australia, Defence Science and Technology Group, DMTC Limited, Environmental Protection Authority, Enware Australia Pty Ltd, Franmarine Underwater Services Pty Ltd, Molino, Zhang and Associates Pty Ltd., Osmoflo Pty Ltd, South Australian Water Corporation, Sparc Technologies Ltd, The Ohio State University and University of Toulon.
