We’ve been looking forward to our Vic/Tas Division Conference this week, and the event definitely didn’t disappoint. We kicked off our day with Matthew Hutton RITP, Partner, McGrathNicol and Peter Bowden RITP, Partner, Gilbert + Tobin Lawyers, who discussed the emerging prevalence of US financiers in Australian restructurings and turnarounds and their impact. One of the many highlights was the session with Associate Justice Catherine Gobbo, Victorian Supreme Court and Sophie Caldwell, Senior Associate, Hall & Wilcox. It was a pleasure to hear some insights from the bench of the Victorian Supreme Court as Sophie artfully quizzed Associate Justice Gobbo on her experience. Achieving diversity has been a long-held challenge for the RIT profession, and it was a thought-provoking discussion among the panel of Robyn Erskine AM RITF, ARITA Life Member & Partner, Brooke Bird; Lucinda Gannon, Corporate Psychologist, KordaMentha and; Marita Pascoe, Head of Diversity & Inclusion, Maddocks. Moderated by Mathew Gashi, Deputy Chair, Vic/Tas YP Committee & Senior Associate, Maddocks, who covered the topic of Bias, belonging and diversity: creating safe, inclusive workplaces. We rounded out the conference with a session from Karli Cibich, Special Counsel, Norton Rose Fulbright; and Hoda Solaymani-Jamal, Special Counsel, Norton Rose Fulbright who brought to our attention some key lessons and takeaways when dealing with Pre-pack bias vs legitimate insolvency advice.
