Psoriatic arthritis, a condition affecting 1-2 out of every 10 people with psoriasis, doesn't just challenge individuals—it reshapes family dynamics. Today we recognise the impact of psoriatic diseases and its impact on families. Understanding Psoriatic Arthritis Psoriatic arthritis causes inflammation in the joints, leading to pain, stiffness, and swelling. While its exact cause remains unknown, genetics, immune system factors, and environmental triggers may all play a role. Symptoms can vary, but commonly include: - Joint pain and stiffness - Swollen fingers and toes - Lower back pain - Foot pain, especially in the sole or back of the heel - Changes to nails, such as separation from the nail bed Family Impact and Support Living with psoriatic arthritis often means adapting to unpredictable flare-ups and ongoing treatment. Families play a crucial role in: 1. Understanding the condition 2. Providing emotional support 3. Assisting with daily tasks during flare-ups 4. Encouraging adherence to treatment plans On this World Psoriasis Day, we recognise the strength of families facing psoriatic disease together. Remember, with proper treatment, most people with psoriatic arthritis can lead full, active lives. Back pain is common but is rarely due to serious disease. While it can be uncomfortable, it's usually not a sign of serious medical issues. Most cases of low back pain improve within a few weeks, with or without treatment. However, you should see your doctor immediately if: - You have new symptoms such as losing weight, sweats and chills, problems controlling your bladder or bowel, tingling or numbness in your legs or saddle region (around your buttocks, genitals and upper thighs) -You have osteoporosis or a history of cancer -You are prone to infection, or you are an intravenous drug user. Stay active and keep moving - your back is designed for movement. Try gentle exercises like yoga, tai chi or hydrotherapy to manage symptoms. Heat therapy can also help relax tense muscles. Don't let back pain hold you back. Learn more about back pain and how to manage it effectively at: https://lnkd.in/gE9xYn7v #BackHealth #ArthritisAustralia #BackPain
