The Accounting Society (ASOC) is a student-focused Society partnered with The University of Sydney Business School. Initially founded to improve the professional development of university students, the society's mission is to promote a greater awareness of accounting related careers by being the most accessible, innovative and rewarding society for business students. In doing so, the society functions as a gateway between its sponsors and members, hosting regular workshops and career events to provide members with valuable exposure to professional service firms.

    The University of Sydney’s Accounting Society (ASOC) is partnering with The Pacioli Society to present you Data Breaches in Australia: A Discussion of Governance and Notification Challenges! Australia has become a target for cybercrime, now ranking fifth in the world for the incidence of data breaches. As accounting, legal and governance professionals, we are continually expanding our data-related capabilities and knowledge, and we are now expected to have enhanced expertise in data governance. To address these challenges, the Pacioli Society is hosting a dinner event alongside a panel Q&A, featuring experts in data governance and cyber security from EY, the NSW Department of Education, and Redcross Lifeblood! Please note that this event has LIMITED spots, so make sure to apply ASAP! Applications close on the 30th of October. Successful students will be notified after a review of the applications, so be sure to get in early!   • On Thursday 10th October, ASOC partnered with Grant Thornton Australia and ACCA to host GT X ACCA Panel Event! Thanks to our amazing panelists, students were able to gain insight into what post-graduation opportunities are available and paths for professional development! ASOC would like to express our appreciation for the time and advice given by the panelists which made the event so successful!     On Thursday 19th September, ASOC held our Annual Networking Event! With the help and support of our sponsors, we were able to provide an engaging environment for students to converse with industry professionals. Students were able to voice their vocation, discover alternative career pathways, and receive valuable tips and advice on how to approach job applications. Simultaneously, they were able strengthen their networking skills and meet like-minded peers. ASOC would like to express our sincere gratitude to the all the amazing representatives from ACCA, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, PwC Australia, EY, Grant Thornton Australia, Accru Felsers, Forvis Mazars in Australia, The Tax Institute and CPA Australia for their time and insights that made the event such a huge success.
