Soil Categorisation (some client wins)   In updating our corporate resume of projects today a few recent projects stand out as examples where our experience has delivered really significant disposal costs savings to the client:   Cheltenham - Prior to construction of a 10-story mixed use development we built on the work of an earlier assessment that suggested fill material (~2,100 t) was Category C. Further to our recommendations and further sampling works, we fully re-categorised the soils as Fill - resulting in a huge disposal cost savings (~$190K) to the builder.   Kew - A previous soil categorisation by another 'consultant' suggested the entire site to be Category B PIW. Following our recommendation a further program to collect additional sampling data was completed resulting in an estimated 4,840 t of fill soil to be reclassified as Category C PIW - resulting in stupendous savings ($100s of thousands) to the client. Brighton - Additional site sampling was completed for the purposes of confirming the soil disposal categorisation at this supermarket development site identified and found Category A wastes. More detailed investigations resulted in a significant reduction of high-level soil for disposal and cost savings to the builder.   Greenvale Lakes - In order to assess and indicatively categorise 40,000 m3 of stockpiled soil material, a bespoke staged-sampling approach was developed to control costs. Attention was required to distinguish more recent dumping from earlier road excavation spoil. 60 primary samples were collected and tested. When the initial testing suggested Category C Prescribed Industrial Waste due to fluoride levels, Atma Environmental recommended further investigations ultimately proving the material was classifiable as Fill - disposal cost savings: $ millions.   Brooklyn – A previous detailed in-situ site assessment for a large industrial construction site indicated the site fill layer was Category D (Category C for disposal purposes). Site preparation works subsequently generated ~37,000 m3 of stockpiled soil. Recognizing the potential for stockpiling to have altered the categorisation, stockpile sampling was proposed and completed with the result being a Fill categorisation - disposal cost savings: $ multi-millions. #atmaenviro #consulting #clientsavings
