The Commonwealth Government’s decision to allocate another $33.6 million to Clontarf Foundation, a non-Indigenous football-based school attendance organisation, while Aboriginal led education organisations across the country continue to go underfunded, raises serious questions about equity and accountability in education funding that builds the Community Controlled Sector, in line with Priority Reform Two under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. NATSIEC is calling for all governments to commit to long term investment in both state and territory Aboriginal community controlled education organisations and other Aboriginal led education initiatives working to make schools culturally safe, support culturally responsive teaching practices, and embed Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum. An open and transparent tender process is needed; one that recognises the systemic barriers Aboriginal organisations face and ensures fair access to funding decisions that affect our communities. This is not about one program. It is about who is trusted to lead, whose expertise counts, and who decides what education works for our learners. We know what works. If governments are serious about formal partnerships, shared decision making, and strengthening the Aboriginal Community Controlled sector, then it is time they listened. #firstnationseducation #CommunityControlled #SelfDetermination
