The Government of South Australia's $593 million hydrogen fuelled power station is moving ahead with tenders closing on Monday for early stage civil works at Port Bonython, near the industrial city of Whyalla on Spencer Gulf. A consortium made up of ATCO Australia and BOC (ABC) has been engaged by the South Australian Government to provide Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) Services to deliver the hydrogen facility at Whyalla. ATCO Australia is part of the $29B global Atco Group, while BOC is a subsidiary of Linde, the world’s leading industrial gases company. The companies have called through the Industry Capability Network's ICN Gateway for expressions of interest from companies and organisations ‘who consider they have the skills and experience to contribute to the development of the Whyalla Hydrogen Facility’. #manufacturing #australianmanufacturing BOC South Pacific #hydrogen #greenhydrogen #sapol

The Assistant Minister for a Future Made in Australia Senator Tim Ayres has used one of his first outings since promotion to defend the use of government cash to encourage business investment under the Future Made in Australia programme. Speaking on ABC Newcastle Breakfast radio he was asked why government money was being used to encourage private industries, rather than relying on the market and private money. #manufacturing #auspol #australianmanufacturing

The Australian Government has signed a $142 million contract with Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace to acquire the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) air-launched cruise missile from 2025. Unlike the Kongsberg Naval Strike Missile, which will be manufactured in Newcastle under a $850 million deal announced last month, the JSM missiles will be imported. However, the launcher system for the Naval Strike Missile will be assembled in Adelaide at Kongsberg Defence Australia’s new $25 million manufacturing facility in Mawson Lakes, South Australia. #defence #defenceindustry #manufacturing #australianmanufacturing

The Australian Government has released a request for tender for its five-year Australia’s Strategic Fleet Pilot, intended to support resilience during times of crisis or natural disaster, “and to support industries reliant on shipping, such as heavy manufacturing.” Three vessels will be selected through the pilot, which was allocated $21.7 million over five years in the last budget and is a step towards securing a fleet of up to 12 Australian flagged and crewed vessels. #manufacturing #australianmanufacturing #shipping #auspol

Canadian owned Saputo Dairy Australia has announced the last operating season of King Island Dairy, planning to close the facility and retiring the brand in mid 2025. The decision comes after a 10 month review that ‘sought to maximise value for the business by conducting an intensive review of all commercial and financial alternatives for King Island Dairy, including a potential sale to a third party’, according to the company. The President and Chief Operating Officer (International and Europe), Saputo Inc. Leanne Cutts said the decision had not been taken lightly, with the closure the ‘most viable way to strengthen SDA’s competitiveness. #manufacturing #australianmanufacturing #foodandbeverage #foodandbeverageindustry #dairyindustry

Pact Group Holdings Ltd has developed new methods which allow the iconic Sulo kerbside bins to become something of a pin-up for the circular economy. The Sulo bins, which collect waste of various types will now collect plastic waste which will then be turned into…more Sulo bins. Executive General Manager Pact Recycling & Reuse Shareef Khan said: “By using discarded plastic packaging and old mobile garbage bins, we are able to provide a reliable and high-quality source of recycled plastic to make new SULO bins and reduce the environmental impact for local councils who adopt these bins." #wastemanagement #bins #kerbsidebins #recycling #recyclingindustry SULO Group SULO Sulo Australia #plastic #plasticrecycling #ASX

Work has begun on a four-bay hangar for the maintenance of Australian Defence Force’s Boeing 737 variants, with completion scheduled for mid-2026. Design and construction of the $200 million Deep Maintenance and Modification Facility is being led by BESIX Watpac. “We are thrilled to be partnering with the State Government for the first time to deliver the DMMF project – drawing on our extensive experience in delivering aviation and defence projects in South Australia,” said Mark Baker, CEO at BESIX. According to a statement from federal defence industry minister Pat Conroy, 450 construction jobs are forecast during the two-year build, with 50 ongoing jobs after that. It will allow staff to carry out maintenance on aircraft onshore rather than this being done overseas. #manufacturing #australianmanufacturing BESIX Defence Australia #defence #defenceindustry #construction #maintenance #aircraftmaintenance
