About us
The Australian Pozzolan Association (APozA) is the national body representing the interests of the pozzolan industry. The Association was established in 2018 to develop, promote and advance the use of pozzolanic materials in the heavy construction industry through the development of Standards and creating avenues into a wide range of relevant materials markets.

The Federal Government has tasked the Productivity Commission to lead an inquiry into opportunities to boost circularity across the Australian economy, including engaging with organisations involved with coal ash, slag and pozzolan. In a circular economy, materials and products are kept in use longer, including by designing longer-lasting and recyclable products, and by boosting waste and recycling infrastructure. This inquiry is about exploring sustainable solutions that are good for the environment and good for business – helping to cut waste going to landfill while also encouraging more efficient use of raw materials. Zeotech (ASX:ZEO) is working to advance the development of low-emissions building products using its cement supplement – high-grade kaolin. It aims to do this through a new partnership with Holcim Australia, one of the largest building material organisations in Australia and New Zealand. Metakaolin is increasing in demand as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) that could advance low-carbon cement and concrete by partially substituting clinker in Portland cement and concrete binder mixes. Suvo Strategic Minerals (ASX:SUV) is Australia’s only hydrous kaolin producer who wholly owned the Pittong operation in Victoria, Australia. Suvo has now also produced a high-strength, low-carbon cement from nickel slag during recently completed laboratory trials at the Makassar State University (UNM) in Indonesia. The company is aiming to reduce the carbon footprint of cement production — which is currently the world’s single largest industrial emitter of greenhouse gasses. Great to be part of an innovative team pushing forward with meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
BGC will significantly cut carbon emissions from a range of its building products under an agreement with Tianqi Lithium Energy Australia (TLEA) including replacing a significant portion of imported, high-carbon clinker with aluminosilicate, known as TAS, from the Kwinana lithium hydroxide plant. On Thursday, 28th November Daniel Cooper, BGC CEO was joined by Raj Surendran, CEO of TLEA, and Minister David Michael MLA, Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Ports and Road Safety as well as being the Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport, to announce the agreement at BGC Cement's Naval Base operations. The agreement was the culmination of more than five years of research, development, and collaboration with TLEA, including laboratory and field trials to test the pozzolanic, or binding properties, of TAS. Key Benefits of the agreement include: - Significant Emissions Reduction: Assuming a 25% blend with traditional cement, BGC's TAS blend would reduce carbon emissions by 24% compared to traditional cement as TAS has close to zero carbon. - Product Performance: BGC's extensive research indicates TAS in optimised blends outperforms traditional cement in key performance areas, such as later-age strength. - Infrastructure Investments: BGC is installing a dedicated drying plant and expanding its blending facility with new silos and weighbridges, creating jobs and boosting the Kwinana economy. - Product Expansion: TAS will initially be used in masonry products and concrete blocks, with plans to expand its use to general cement products, pending updates to Australian standards. This agreement strengthens BGC's commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices and supports its long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions. www.bgccement.com.au Business News #circulareconomy #circularity #decarbonisation #criticalminerals #apoza #sustainability #SCMs #mining #cement #lithium #TAS #DBS #greencement #lithiumbyproduct #manufacturedpozzolan #BGC #BGCement
