The Australia Tigray Alliance is pleased to share that the container filled with essential medical equipment has safely arrived at Ayder Hospital. Nearly a year ago, we launched a fundraiser to gather community support for sending vital hospital equipment to Ayder Hospital in Mekelle, made possible by generous donations from the Rotary Club of Footscray. Ambassador Julia Niblett, Australia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, visited Mekelle on Friday to join in the handover of medical equipment and supplies to Ayder Hospital. She is pictured with Dr. Kibrom Gebreselassie, Chief Executive Director of Ayder Hospital. A heartfelt thank you to Ambassador Niblett for witnessing the impacts of the conflict on the healthcare system in Tigray and to everyone who played a role in making this initiative a success!

  • The Australia Tigray Alliance on behalf of the Australian Tigrayan Community extends its sincere gratitude to The Australian Greens for their recent statement addressing the crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide in Tigray.   The conflict in Tigray has resulted in unspeakable human suffering, including the loss of 700,000 lives, the displacement of over 2.5 million people, and widespread gender-based violence affecting 10,000 women and girls. The findings of the New Lines Institute report confirm these horrific violations of international law and underline the urgent need for justice and accountability.   We commend The Australian Greens for - Acknowledging the genocide and the war crimes committed against the Tigrayan people. - Standing in solidarity with the Australian-Tigrayan community and recognising the frustration over the lack of media coverage and international action. - Calling on the Australian Government to take a leading role in ensuring accountability and reviewing the distribution of aid in Tigray to ensure it reaches those in need. Thank you The Australian Greens, Jordon Steele-John, David Shoebridge and Adam Bandt     The new lines institute report can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gV_hND8v https://lnkd.in/gVJVp4Uy

We are so grateful to Dr Daniel Mulino MP for joining us at the Ashenda celebration last night and for sharing these beautiful words about our community. The support and recognition from Dr Mulino mean so much to us, especially as we continue to share our culture and raise awareness about the issues affecting our community. We deeply value the strong relationship we have built with Dr. Mulino and appreciate his ongoing advocacy. We look forward to continuing to strengthen this partnership. Thank you Dr Daniel Mulino for celebrating with us and for your continued support and engagement with our community. #Ashenda #WomenEmpowement #TigrayanCommunity #CulturalCelebration

What an amazing night of colour, music, dancing and cuisine! Last night Melbourne’s Tigrayan community celebrated Ashenda, a day to celebrate women and young girls - one of the most important days in the Tigrayan calendar. Everybody made such an effort - the room was full of dazzling attire. Congratulations to all of the hard working volunteers who made the evening possible. Tigrayan youth have been critical in raising the awareness of the issues in their homeland amongst Australian MPs, including myself - through events in Canberra at Parliament and also in my own electorate. The Tigrayan community came to Australia in very difficult circumstances and has contributed so much in the three decades since people first starting moving here. The situation in Tigray remains very difficult and the Australian government continues to press for compliance with the peace agreement. Thank you for the chance to celebrate with you last night.

We had the pleasure of meeting with Senator Jordon Steele-John earlier this month. Our discussion focused on the critical findings from the New Lines Institute report, which was released in early June. This comprehensive report sheds light on the severe and ongoing crisis in Tigray, a matter of great urgency and concern. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Senator Jordon Steele-John for his support and for his keen awareness of the magnitude of the situation in Tigray over the past few years. His recognition of the crisis’s gravity is both encouraging and essential as we move forward. The Australia Tigray Alliance looks forward to continuing to work with Senator Steele-John and his team. From Footscray to Tigray with love! It was a special day in Melbourne's West yesterday when I joined members of the Rotary Club of Footscray and the Australia Tigray Alliance (ATA) to send off a shipping container of desperately needed medical equipment and supplies to Ayder Hospital in Tigray, Ethiopia. I've been meeting with members of the ATA for a number of years now and have heard first hand about the horrific consequences of the conflict that has devastated the region. I know that the Tigray-Australian diaspora community in Melbourne's West has experienced enormous trauma and anxiety for friends and family suffering in the conflict. Members of the ATA have spent countless hours working with the Footscray Rotary Club to secure donations of medical equipment for the major hospital in the region and raising the funds necessary to deliver a shipping container of these donations to the region. Last year, I connected the ATA with the Australian Embassy, Ethiopia, which has been able to support these local efforts with a grant to fund the delivery of one of these shipping containers through its Direct Aid Program. It's no exaggeration to say that the contents of these containers will save lives. Thank you to everyone whose persistence and hard work has made this life saving project a reality.

Ethiopia's second-largest hospital, Ayder, eagerly awaits life-saving aid, shipped today from Australia! This critical medical shipment is a lifeline for Tigray, where 70% of hospitals are non-operational and only 17% of health centers remain functional. This vital aid is the result of incredible collaboration between Australia Tigray Alliance, Donations In Kind, Rotary Club of Footscray, Rotary International, and Western Health, demonstrating Australia's commitment to global health. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the unwavering support from Assistant Foreign Minister Tim Watts, DFAT, Australian Embassy, Ethiopia and every Australian who donated to the crowdfunding campaign, making this life-saving mission possible. #donationsinkind #healthcare #globalhealth

  • We had the distinct pleasure of meeting with The Hon Ged Kearney MP, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, to discuss the ongoing initiatives for Ayder Hospital in Tigray, a vital facility serving over 7 million people. It was an inspiring session, reflecting our shared commitment to improving healthcare access and facilities in the region. A heartfelt thank you to Minister Kearney for her support and for recognising the critical needs at Ayder Hospital. Collaborations like these are pivotal in our mission to provide essential medical services to those most in need. The Australia Tigray Alliance looks forward to working closely with Minister Kearney and her team to make a lasting impact. Together, we are striving to create a healthier future for the people of Tigray. #Healthcare #Collaboration #Tigray #AyderHospital
