Throughout his campaign, @DavidCrisafulli was crystal clear in his opposition to nuclear energy. And given the result, Queensland just voted no to nuclear. All eyes are on @DavidCrisafulli to give his counterparts in Canberra the message. Nuclear just isn't right for Australia. https://lnkd.in/gi5R7TCX

We won’t give up until Australia’s nature is protected and regenerated. Nature needs us, now.
About us
We’re the Australian Conservation Foundation, Australia’s national environment organisation. Since 1965, we’ve protected the nature we all love – our unique wildlife and our beautiful beaches and bush. Driven by the power of people, we won World Heritage listing for the Great Barrier Reef and Kakadu National Park, and returned precious water to the rivers of the Murray-Darling. We influence governments and businesses to protect the animals, rivers and reefs close to our hearts and hold decision-makers to account without fear or favour. Everything we do is evidence-based and helps nature and people thrive for generations to come. We won’t give up until Australia’s nature is protected and regenerated. Nature needs us, now. Congratulations, to the incoming Queensland Premier David Crisafulli. As the new leader of one of Australia's hardest hit climate states, we urge you to stay true to your commitment to deliver the 75% by 2035 emissions reduction target. And keep up your courage in standing up to Peter Dutton and his nuclear energy fantasy. https://lnkd.in/g_canm3h

Don’t let the Emu-wren be blasted into extinction! A decision is due tomorrow on plans to destroy crucial coastal heathland at Whalers Way in South Australia for rocket launch pads and bunkers. This area is critical habitat for the tiny Eyre Peninsula Southern Emu-wren. The Emu-wren is one of our most precious species at risk of extinction with only 750 left in the wild. Bulldozing, shock waves, noise pollution, and fire risks would devastate their fragile population. Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek can stop this. Urge her to reject the plan by forwarding this pre-filled letter: https://acf.to/3Mthvq9

Aussies love platypuses! Check out this awesome coverage on Channel 7 about this year’s Platy Project. ACF has teamed up with Tamworth Landcare, UNSW, and Bendemeer Public School to discuss how locals can help protect platypuses. At the Macdonald River, Dr Gilad Bino shared how landholders in New England can support platypus conservation through the Platy-project. With much still unknown about their habitats and the impact of land clearing, dams, fires and floods, your sightings are vital! Log your sightings throughout October and November to help protect this iconic species. Every sighting counts! Join the Platy-project: https://lnkd.in/e62Jte8M

Today ACF’s Corporate Campaigns Program Manager Jolene George visited Coles HQ in Melbourne/Naarm to hand deliver our open letter. More than 10,000 of you called on Coles to end deforestation in its supply chains. With the Coles AGM just around the corner, we’re ramping up pressure the food giant follows through and supports Aussie farmers producing food sustainably.

Which Australian banks are on track to reach net zero? Our 'Laggards to Leaders' report examines the climate policies of ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, Macquarie Group, NAB, and Westpac. Despite some progress, each bank still has a long way to go to meet its commitments to the Paris Agreement. The majority of progress this year was due to the tightening of lending policies to environmentally harmful industries. Still, bank lending policies require the most action for banks to meet their net zero commitments. Read the full report:

The Avian Influenza virus (H5N1) is devastating wildlife worldwide, with millions of birds lost and even endangered species in Antarctica now affected. Although Australia remains virus-free, it's only a matter of time before it arrives. In a climate and extinction crisis, our wildlife needs all the help they can get. Here’s how you can help stop the spread: 1) Save the emergency animal disease hotline: 1800 675 888 2) Keep your distance from wildlife: protect them by reducing contact. 2) Stay informed: Follow @ACF, BirdLife Australia, Invasive Species Council, and Wildlife Health Australia for updates.
