About us

Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre (AILC) courses unlock opportunities for Indigenous people of all ages to develop their careers and expand the ways they contribute to the community. Culturally-tailored education and training in Indigenous leadership provides participants with the skills and opportunities to realise their potential. The AILC was founded by Indigenous leaders in recognition of the importance of leadership in driving sustainable change in Indigenous communities. The importance of Indigenous Leadership is now recognised across Australia – nominated by the Federal Government as a key strategy to help close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and actively supported by many of the nation’s leading corporations. Based in Canberra, the AILC takes programs across the country to deliver them where they are most needed and remain a not-for-profit company owned and controlled by Indigenous Australians. The AILC offers accredited courses in Indigenous Leadership, and non-accredited short courses in specific leadership skills and diversity mentoring. Our courses and assessment tasks allow for a wide range of skill sets, learning styles, interests and preferred means of cultural expression. Indigenous people are able to attend most of our courses at no cost, thanks to sponsorship from government departments, companies and not-for-profit organisations. We welcome donations from members of the public who recognise the critical importance of Indigenous leadership to create a more equitable future for all Australians.

    Congratulations to all the participants in the 2023 Wesfarmers Indigenous Leadership Program. Wesfarmers is committed to increasing representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at all levels of the company by ensuring access to career development and progression. With this goal in mind, the Wesfarmers Indigenous Leadership Program was launched in 2022 in partnership with the AILC. Since then about 152 team members have entered the program from across the company's divisions. So far, 39 participants in the program have achieved a promotion or a change in roles. And Wesfarmers is building a strong workplace culture with 93% employment retention of all participants. What a great endorsement of the program! The Wesfarmers Indigenous Leadership Program helps participants build their leadership skills, confidence, motivation and setting goals for their future career journeys.     Leadership fire has been lit 🔥 Last week, AILC CEO, Robyn Forester and trainer Steve Cochrane delivered an Introduction to Indigenous Leadership workshop with Lendlease’s First Nations employees from across NSW. We appreciate working with corporates like Lendlease to provide educational opportunities for their employees. And we are always happy when participants tell us that a workshop has given them the spark to take on further study and continue their leadership development journey. Well done you mob!
