"The latest extraordinary revelations of gender-based violence on Australian building sites are appalling and a shameful wake-up call that not enough is being done to eradicate stomach-churning culture problems propagated by the CFMEU's leadership. "The appointment of an administrator last year must only be the first step in delivering decisive and tangible action to clean up this industry and stop the unacceptable conduct that media reports continue to lay bare. "More needs to be done on the ground right now, to confront the CFMEU's absolutely unacceptable conduct and active contempt for the community, taxpayers and every building industry participant." Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) Head of Northern Australia Dean Deighton and Ai Group Defence Council Executive Director Kate Louis hosted industry and Defence leaders in #townsville last week. Along with Commander 3rd Brigade Brigadier Ben McLennan and the 3rd Brigade, Dean and Kate hosted a three-day tour for more than 30 members of the Defence Council National Executive. Speaking to the Townsville Bulletin, Dean said Townsville was chosen for its deep military heritage and growing strategic importance. “The goal of this tour is clear: Connect industry with #defence end users, explore #NorthQueensland’s role in national security and highlight the region’s readiness for Defence industry investment," he said. “It’s about starting a long-overdue conversation on how industry can better support Defence in this key region. “Industry and Defence don’t just collaborate – they rely on each other. The Defence Council’s visit to Townsville highlights this interdependence." "The private sector drives our prosperity but right now, it is under enormous pressure," Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) Chief Executive Innes Willox told the Weekend Australian on Saturday. "On many counts it is shrinking and with that we are losing our capacity for sustainable growth, innovation, competition and productivity. "No amount of public sector spending can replace that. That massive increase in public sector spend is not only inflationary, it is a temporary mask for what is happening in the real economy. "It is a model that history tells us repeatedly fails and simply can't be sustained forever." The page 1 article referred to Ai Group's Pre-Budget Submission, which warns investment needed to kickstart private sector growth will fail to materialise if inflationary impacts on businesses and industry — including soaring electricity and gas costs — continue to be ignored. "Businesses large and small are the constant victims of relentlessly rising energy costs," Mr Willox said. "All the industrial regeneration policies and strategies in the world are of little value if we can't get the basics right, like keeping the lid on rising energy costs." Treasurer Jim Chalmers will deliver the 2025-26 Budget next Tuesday night, March 25. Excellent news for #SmallBusiness in #NorthQueensland impacted by the January floods. ⬇ #AiGroup #HereForBusiness #MemberEngagement Dean Deighton Michelle Farquhar
Member for Burdekin Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Minister for Manufacturing Minister for Regional and Rural Development
Signed, sealed and delivered by the LNP State Government. North Queensland told us they needed more support, so we are taking action - tripling grants for eligible primary producers to $75,000, and doubling grants for small businesses and non-profits to $50,000. It’s jointly funded by the Feds, and we’ve worked closely with them to get the deal done. We’re well prepared for the uplift, and we’ll be with North Queensland for as long as it takes.

"It's concerning that we are now in the crosshairs of the United States administration when it comes to our trade ties," Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) Chief Executive Innes Willox said on Radio National Breakfast this morning. "It's true that, overall, steel and aluminum iron don't account for much within the Australian economy, but the concern for Australia now is, what's next? "It seems that parts of the US administration are quite determined to unpick the free trade agreement that we settled with the US back in 2004. "They've got concerns about Australia getting unfair advantages in some areas, so I think we need to be wary and concerned that this is not just a one-off, that other industries from Australia would be subject to a new round of tariffs." 🎧 Listen to the full interview here: ➡ https://lnkd.in/gj8QBhhF ▪ 𝗨𝗦 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱: ➡ https://lnkd.in/gq-aNdz6 #AiGroup #HereForBusiness #tariffs Gemma Daley Louise McGrath
