Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) has urged the next Queensland Government to take the handbrake off productivity. Ahead of next week's state election, Ai Group's Head of Queensland, Michelle Farquhar, and Head of Northern Australia, Dean Deighton, said members had laid bare the challenges and obstacles of doing business in the state. They identified their top three priorities as finding skilled workers, reducing regulation and accessing reliable and affordable energy. Ai Group member Tim Haight, of NLT Digital Solutions, said he had no choice but to recruit from overseas. Townsville businessman Mick McMillan, MSc, BEng, FIEAust, CPEng, RPEQ, of AEP Engineering, has brought training in-house to keep up with the demand for his engineering and advanced manufacturing services. Ms Farquhar said: "The message from our members is clear: the next Queensland Government needs to put measures in place to support businesses, regardless of their location. "Improving access to skills and training and streamlining regulation and compliance are key to taking the handbrake off productivity in this state." Mr Deighton said the shortage of skilled workers, supply chain disruptions and rising costs led to sleepless nights for employers in the North. "There are unique issues in Northern Australia and the next Queensland Government needs to recognise the region is the country's economic powerhouse," he said. "The whole state needs to prosper so Queenslanders are not left behind." ▪ Read more here: ➡ https://lnkd.in/gWevzPWZ ▪ Michelle Farquhar: Qld needs a skilled workforce, fit for today and beyond: ➡ https://lnkd.in/gxve7H9q ▪ Dean Deighton: The challenge for the next government is to set up the state for success: ➡ https://lnkd.in/ghJjKHdC ▪ Tim Haight: A focus on employers is due: ➡ https://lnkd.in/gN9DYMay ▪ Mick McMillan: When you think it can't get any worse, it's getting worse: ➡ https://lnkd.in/g-Brf2H6 #AiGroup #HereForBusiness #MemberEngagement #queensland
